Gym membership in Goa: the published figures, town by town

Gym access and personal coaching are separate parts of the budget.
Gym access and personal coaching are separate parts of the budget.

Goa's gyms are spread across a state, not packed into one city: Panaji and Porvorim in the middle, Mapusa and the Bardez villages to the north, Margao and Ponda to the south and centre, and Vasco da Gama by the port. Very few of them post prices online. There is no Gold's Gym in Goa on that chain's own branch locator, and we found no other national chain with a Goa price page. What exists is a crowd-sourced average for the state, a separate one for Panaji, a government fee schedule and a multi-gym pass. We checked all of them in October 2026.

So the honest answer to "how much is gym fees in Goa" is a range: from ₹400 a month for a government weights hall to around ₹1,600 for a typical private gym, rising to ₹2,600 or more in Panaji. The national guide to gym membership fees shows how these compare with larger cities.

Panaji against the Goa average: ₹2,600 or ₹1,625

Numbeo collects prices from residents. Its Goa page gave a monthly fitness club membership of ₹1,625, drawing on 135 entries from 15 contributors across all its items over the past year. Its Panaji page gave ₹2,600, from 70 entries and 9 contributors. Both samples are small, so treat the numbers as a guide rather than a quote.

Numbeo doesn't say why the capital costs more, and neither page names a gym. What the two pages agree on is the ceiling: both top out at ₹5,000 a month, the price of Goa's premium end. If you live in Mapusa, Margao or Ponda, expect to pay nearer the statewide figure; if you work in Panjim and want to train near the office, budget closer to ₹2,600.

Sports Authority of Goa fees: the lowest-cost weights rooms

The Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) owns and maintains 14 sports complexes across the state, according to Wikipedia's entry on the authority. In October 2024, The Goan reported SAG's new user fees, splitting sports into two groups. Weightlifting and bodybuilding fall in the second, cheaper group, alongside table tennis, gymnastics, judo, boxing, kabaddi and kho kho.

Who paysMonthQuarterYear
Student₹200₹500₹1,800
Non-student₹400₹1,200₹4,500
Sports Authority of Goa user fees for weightlifting, bodybuilding and other Group 2 sports (reported 13 October 2024)

For comparison, the first group, which covers swimming, badminton, cricket, hockey and basketball, cost non-students ₹600 a month, ₹1,800 a quarter or ₹7,000 a year. The report did not use the word "gym", so whether a given SAG complex's fitness room is billed under weightlifting and bodybuilding is something to confirm at the complex. A non-student year at ₹4,500 works out to ₹375 a month, a fraction of a private gym, but expect fixed hours, shared equipment and athletes in training at peak times.

Weights plus a swim at a SAG complex

Because SAG prices each sport separately, a Goa resident who wants both the weights hall and the pool at a complex that has both would, on the 2024 rates, pay ₹400 plus ₹600, or ₹1,000 a month as a non-student. That is still below Numbeo's statewide ₹1,625 for a private gym alone, and a student would pay ₹500 for the same pair. On a yearly basis the non-student pair is ₹4,500 plus ₹7,000, or ₹11,500.

Before you count on that, ask the complex four things. Does it admit adults who are not training for competition? Which hours are open to the public, and which are reserved for coaching batches? Is the fitness room billed under weightlifting and bodybuilding, or separately? And has the fee changed since the 2024 notice? A government weights hall is the cheapest way to lift in Goa, but only if its timings fit your day.

Margao, Mapusa and Vasco: which gyms take FITPASS

We could not find a single published monthly fee for a gym in Margao, Mapusa or Vasco da Gama. What we could find is which local gyms accept FITPASS, a multi-gym subscription that advertised plans at ₹1,750 and ₹2,083 a month in October 2026. Its Bardez listing named these partner gyms and towns:

Town or areaGyms listed
Panjim and Dona PaulaNorbert's Fitness Studio (Panjim, Dona Paula), Norbert's Fitness Studio 24x7, Sunil's Fitness Wave
Porvorim and PilerneNorbert's Fitness Studio, Global Heights Gym, The Fit Squad Fitness Studio, Transform Fitness Studio
Mapusa and the northNorbert's Fitness Studio (Mapusa), City Gym (Morjim), Go Muscular (Bicholim)
Vasco sideNorbert's Fitness Studio, City Gym, All Star Fitness Center (Vasco and Cortalim)
Around Panaji's edgesScience Fitness (Curca), Muscle Up (Velha)
FITPASS partner gyms named on its Goa listing, by town (checked October 2026)

Norbert's Fitness Studio, a Goa name with branches in five of these places, is the nearest thing the state has to a gym chain. A FITPASS plan makes sense if you split your week between, say, Porvorim and Vasco, or if you are new to Goa and want to try a few gyms before joining one. For one gym, five days a week, a direct membership near Numbeo's ₹1,625 is usually cheaper. For Margao gyms, walk in and ask for the monthly, quarterly and yearly prices on paper.

A season in Goa: paying for a gym for three or four months

Some people who train in Goa are there for only part of the year: winter renters in Assagao or Siolim, remote workers in Porvorim, people back from the Gulf on long leave. An annual plan rarely suits them. The table prices a four-month stay using the October 2026 figures above.

The last row is not a like-for-like comparison: it is coaching, not floor access. But it shows that for a short stay, a rented flat with a pair of dumbbells and a live coach can replace both a gym and a trainer. Our guide to personal trainer fees in Goa has the state's trainer rates if you'd rather add a person in the room.

Before you pay a gym in Goa

Check what is included, the terms and the full cost before you commit.
Check what is included, the terms and the full cost before you commit.
  • Check the GST. Since 22 September 2025, GST on gym and fitness services has been 5%, down from 18%, as The Tribune reported. A Goa gym still quoting "plus 18%" is using the old rate.
  • Ask about a monsoon freeze. From June to September, ask whether the membership can be paused if you are away or the roads are flooded.
  • Get the short-plan price. Ask for monthly and quarterly prices even if only a yearly price is offered first.
  • Look at the hour you'll train. A Panjim gym at 7 AM and at 7 PM are different places.
  • Separate the trainer fee. A floor trainer is usually included; a personal trainer is extra.
