Gym fees in Varanasi: what is and isn't on record
Gym fees in Varanasi are set almost entirely at the counter. In October 2026 we couldn't find a Varanasi branch on Gold's Gym's or cult.fit's websites, and the independent gyms around Sigra, Lanka, Mahmoorganj or Pandeypur don't print prices online. So rather than guess, this page lays out exactly what can be checked, what can't, and how to judge a quote when a gym in Banaras gives you one.
| Kind of gym | Price published? | What we found |
|---|---|---|
| Neighbourhood gyms | No | FITPASS lists partner gyms in Mahmoorganj, Maldahiya, Chetganj, Chaukaghat, Durgakund, Sunderpur, Paigamberpur and Bhagwanpur, without their fees |
| Typical membership, crowd-sourced | Estimate only | ₹1,200 a month on Numbeo, from 20 contributors over 18 months |
| FITPASS multi-gym pass | Yes | ₹1,750 a month (FITPASS 180) or ₹2,083 a month (FITPASS 360) |
| Sigra sports complex gym | No | A gym is part of the Smart City complex; we found no public fee |
| BHU campus gyms | No | We found no published fee for students, staff or outsiders |
| National chain with a Varanasi price | No | None found on Gold's Gym's or cult.fit's sites |
That's thinner than you'd hope for a city of Varanasi's size, and it means the advice below matters more than any single number. If you've searched for gym fees in Varanasi with price and found confident lists of figures, check where they came from: we found nothing better than the sources on this page.
Average gym fees in Varanasi: Numbeo's ₹1,200
For an average gym fee in Varanasi, Numbeo's cost-of-living page gives ₹1,200 a month for a fitness club membership. Unlike most cities, it shows no range for that line. Numbeo says the Varanasi data comes from 20 different contributors in the past 18 months, and the page was last updated on 2 October 2026. Those contributors report every kind of price, from groceries to rent, so very few gym answers sit behind the ₹1,200.
| City | Average a month | Range reported | Contributors behind the city page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Varanasi | ₹1,200 | Not shown | 20 in the past 18 months |
| Patna | ₹2,086 | ₹600–5,000 | 24 in the past 12 months |
| Ranchi | ₹2,100 | ₹800–7,500 | 9 in the past 12 months |
Varanasi's figure is about ₹900 lower than both. With no range and few answers behind it, though, ₹1,200 is a starting point for your own comparison, not a price to hold a gym to. Paid month by month for a year, it adds up to ₹14,400, so if a gym offers an annual plan, divide that price by 12 and see how far below ₹1,200 it lands before deciding whether locking in is worth it. Our guide to gym membership fees in India shows how city averages compare nationally.
The cheapest gym in Varanasi: how to find it yourself
People search for the cheapest gym in Varanasi, but with no published fees there's no honest way to name one. What we can do is show you how to find the best value near you over two or three evenings.
- 1
Pick three gyms within ten minutes of home
FITPASS's Varanasi gym list is a useful map even if you don't buy a pass: it shows partner gyms in Mahmoorganj, Chetganj, Durgakund, Sunderpur, Maldahiya and more. A gym you can reach in the lanes at 6 AM is worth more than a cheaper one across the city.
- 2
Visit at the hour you'll train
Evening crowds after office and college hours are the real test. Count the benches and squat racks, and check how many people are waiting for them.
- 3
Ask for every fee in writing
Get the admission fee, the monthly fee, and the quarterly and annual prices on one sheet, with GST shown. The monthly price is usually the most expensive per month, but it's the cheapest way to find out whether you'll keep going.
- 4
Check the summer setup
Varanasi's May and June are hot. Ask whether the floor is air-conditioned or fan-cooled and whether there's power backup, then decide whether that matters at the hour you train.
- 5
Compare against ₹1,200
Numbeo's crowd-sourced average is a rough benchmark. A quote well above it should come with something you can see: more equipment, cooling, cleaner changing rooms or longer hours.
Sigra's sports complex and its gym
Varanasi's main city stadium, Dr Sampurnanand Sports Stadium, is in Sigra and is managed by the Government of Uttar Pradesh. In Sigra too is a sports complex developed under the Varanasi Smart City project: an August 2024 report in the steel-construction trade publication SSMB describes a facility of over 1,50,000 sq ft costing ₹289.78 crore, with an Olympic-size swimming pool, a warm-up pool, courts for badminton, squash, table tennis, wrestling, judo, karate, taekwondo and boxing, a 2,000-seat gallery, a cafe and a gym.
What we couldn't find is any published fee or membership rule for that gym, or whether it's open to the general public at all. The same report mentions an operations-and-maintenance tender, so access may depend on whoever runs it. If you live near Sigra, ask at the complex office; if it does sell public memberships, it may be the best-equipped option on that side of the city.
BHU students and the campus gym question
If you study or work at Banaras Hindu University, the first question is usually whether a campus gym is cheaper than one outside the gates. We looked for a published BHU gym fee for students, staff or outsiders in October 2026 and found none. Ask your hostel office or the university's sports office what's available and on what terms. Off campus, FITPASS lists partner gyms in Sunderpur and Durgakund, on the BHU side of the city, and its pass is one way to try several before committing to one.
Gyms in Varanasi with fees for ladies
Searches for a gym in Varanasi with fees for ladies usually look for either a women's discount or a women-only batch. We found no published Varanasi gym price that differs for women, and no published women-only timetable we could verify. Several gyms on FITPASS's Varanasi list are open to everyone; ask each one directly whether it runs a women's batch, at what hours, and whether a woman trainer is on the floor at that time.
One Varanasi gym or a FITPASS pass?
In Varanasi a multi-gym pass costs more than the typical single gym. FITPASS shows FITPASS 180 at ₹1,750 a month and FITPASS 360 at ₹2,083 a month (checked October 2026), which is more than Numbeo's ₹1,200 Varanasi average for a single gym. The page doesn't explain what separates the two tiers, so ask before buying.
| Option | Per month | Makes sense if |
|---|---|---|
| One neighbourhood gym | Ask; Numbeo's average is ₹1,200 | You train at the same place, near home or college, most days |
| FITPASS 180 | ₹1,750 | Your week moves between areas, or you want to try several gyms first |
| FITPASS 360 | ₹2,083 | As above; check what the higher tier adds |
| Home training with a coach on video | No gym fee | No gym near you is worth its price, or you prefer to train at home |
Questions to settle before you pay a Varanasi gym
- Is GST in the quote? Gym and health club services have carried 5% GST since 22 September 2025, down from 18%, PTI reported. On a ₹1,200 monthly fee that's ₹60, so ask whether a quoted figure includes it.
- What does admission cost? Many gyms charge a one-time admission fee. Ask whether it's waived on a quarterly or annual plan.
- Can you pause? Ask whether the membership can be frozen for exams, travel or a family wedding, and for how many days.
- What are the hours? Ask whether the gym closes between a morning and an evening session, and make sure your hour is covered.
- Is coaching extra? Floor staff help with the basics; a personal trainer is a separate fee. Our guide to personal trainer fees in Varanasi has the rates trainers in the city print.
A Varanasi gym, or home, with a coach on video
If you've joined a gym in Varanasi and want someone to plan your sessions and correct your form, Personal Gym Training in Varanasi puts a certified coach on a live video call while you train at that gym. If none of the gyms near you is worth its price, Personal Home Training in Varanasi works at home with a mat and a few dumbbells, and Group Classes in Varanasi are the lowest-cost way to train with a coach. There's no studio and no home visit; every session is online, and the price is the same in every city:
| Program | One session | 4-week plan (12 sessions) | Per session on the plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Personal Gym Training1:1, 45 minutes | ₹799 | ₹7,070 | about ₹589 |
| Personal Home Training1:1, 45 minutes | ₹899 | ₹8,080 | about ₹673 |
| Rehab & Recovery1:1, once a doctor or physio has cleared you | ₹1,299 | ₹12,121 | about ₹1,010 |
| Group ClassesPer person, small group | ₹499 | ₹4,040 | about ₹337 |
A ₹1,200 neighbourhood gym plus a 12-session gym training plan (₹7,070) comes to about ₹8,270 for a coached first month; after that, many people train alone with occasional check-ins. If you're getting fit for the hills within reach of the city, our guide to treks from Varanasi has routes and a training plan. See online personal training in Varanasi and all plans and prices.
