Government gym fees in Ahmedabad: what the AMC publishes

Government gym fees in Ahmedabad are public, which is rare in Indian cities. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) builds sports facilities and hands them to operators under public-private partnerships, with the member fees fixed in the agreement. Two recent schedules were reported in detail, and a third AMC gym appears on a sports directory:

Both Ranip and Vastral are run by the Soft Tennis Association of Gujarat, which won the tenders. At Ranip the AMC also lists a personal training fee (₹500 non-AC, ₹700 AC), which our guide to personal trainer fees in Ahmedabad looks at in detail. The Vastral complex in east Ahmedabad cost ₹61.67 crore to build, covers 45,000 square metres and is centrally air-conditioned, with a pool, indoor courts and a library as well as the gym. Its operator pays the AMC a fixed rent of ₹2 lakh a month and has to give students of municipal schools free coaching and admission.

The 5% annual increase at Vastral means the ₹400 fee becomes ₹420 in the second year and about ₹441 in the third. Neither report says whether GST is added on top, so ask at the counter for the sanctioned fee card and a receipt.

Beyond the gym: what else AMC's Ranip and Vastral fees cover

Ahmedabad's AMC complexes are worth comparing with private gyms on more than the gym fee, because the same schedules price other activities you might want alongside weights. According to the fee structures reported by DeshGujarat:

• Vastral Sports Complex: swimming from ₹600 a month for beginners, yoga ₹200–2,000, badminton ₹500–4,000, table tennis ₹200–4,000, tennis ₹500–5,000, and basketball and volleyball ₹200–3,000, with the price rising by level from beginner to high performance. Library membership is ₹300.
• Ranip reading room: ₹150 a month non-AC or ₹300 AC, with quarterly, half-yearly and annual rates (₹1,500 a year non-AC, ₹2,500 AC), set to match the AMC's Veer Savarkar Sports Complex library.

So a family in east Ahmedabad could pay ₹400 for one member's gym month and ₹600 for a child's beginner swimming month at Vastral, ₹1,000 together, less than a single month at most private chains. Check which level you'll be placed in, since the upper slabs cost several times the beginner rate.

The Sabarmati Riverfront: outdoor gyms and slot bookings

The Sabarmati Riverfront Sports Park, operated by Adani Sportsline on both the east and west banks across 44,543 square metres, opened in September 2023 with jogging tracks, a gymnasium, cricket pitches and courts for pickleball, basketball, volleyball and tennis. Adani's release describes it as open to everyone, with slots booked online, but neither the release nor the complex page lists a gym fee. If you want to train there, check the booking site for current rates before you plan around it.

For most people the riverfront promenade is more useful as a walking and jogging route between gym days than as a gym itself. A coach can count a brisk riverfront walk as light cardio and plan your heavier sessions around it.

Average gym fees in Ahmedabad by type of gym

No survey we found gives Ahmedabad-wide price bands. magicpin's 2026 city price table covers Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune but not Ahmedabad, so the table below pairs the published Ahmedabad figures with what we could and couldn't verify:

If you searched for Life Fitness gym fees in Ahmedabad, we couldn't find a published price for any Life Fitness branch in October 2026. The same goes for most independent Ahmedabad gyms: they don't put prices online, so you'll get the figure at the front desk. Ask for it in writing, with the GST and joining fee shown separately.

SG Highway and Prahladnagar or the eastern wards: where the cheaper gyms are

Ahmedabad's published gym prices don't line up with the city's usual map of expensive west and cheaper east in a simple way. Both AMC gyms with published fees are away from the SG Highway corridor: Ranip is in the north-west, near the Sabarmati, and Vastral is in the east. The only chain price we found, Anytime Fitness at ₹1,499 a month, is for a club on Ashram Road near Lal Darwaja, close to the old city. magicpin's Ahmedabad gym list also covers smaller gyms in Bapunagar and Naroda, and UrbanPro's Ahmedabad page lists gyms in Satellite, Bodakdev, Maninagar, Ghatlodia and Paldi, none with a published price.

If you live around Prahladnagar, Bodakdev, Thaltej or Bopal, your choice is mostly between a society gym, a neighbourhood gym and a chain or pass. Monthly or annual: the maths for an Ahmedabad gym

At AMC fees the annual-versus-monthly question hardly matters: paying monthly costs little and keeps you free to stop. At private gyms it matters more. A long plan lowers the monthly figure, but only if you keep going. Ahmedabad's hot season, roughly March to June, is a common time for routines to slip, so if you join in winter, think about whether you'll still be going in May before you pay for twelve months. If the answer is "in an AC gym, yes", the extra ₹200 a month at Ranip tells you what the city thinks cooling is worth.

GST, registration fees and freezes

• GST is 5% on gym fees. The GST Council cut the rate on gyms, health clubs and fitness centres from 18% to 5%, without input tax credit, from 22 September 2025, PTI reported. On a ₹17,988 year that's about ₹900.
• Registration fees. magicpin's national guide says most gyms charge a one-time registration fee of ₹500–2,000. The AMC reports don't mention one; ask.
• Freezes. Ask how many days you can pause, and whether Diwali travel or a summer trip counts. Get it written on the receipt.
• AC hours and batches. Ask whether the AC runs all day and whether there are separate batches, if either matters to you.

A checklist before paying an Ahmedabad gym

   Decide on AC first

   A non-AC gym at 7 PM in May is a different place from the same gym in January. If you'll train through the summer, visit on a hot evening before you choose.

   Ask for the sanctioned fee card at AMC gyms

   PPP operators work to a fee schedule fixed by the AMC. Ask to see it, and pay only the listed amount.

   Match your plan to the operator's term

   AMC gyms are run on fixed contracts: five years at Ranip, with a possible three-year extension after review, and ten years at Vastral. Fees are tied to those agreements, such as Vastral's 5% yearly rise. Pay monthly or quarterly rather than far ahead, so a change of operator never leaves you chasing a refund.

   Visit at your real training time

   In hot months the early slots are the ones most people want, so see how crowded the gym is at the hour you'd use it.

   Check the commute and parking

   Check where you'll park, especially along SG Highway and in the old city. A gym you can walk to is the one you'll keep using.
