Kolkata gym monthly fees, from para club to premium chain
Gym fees in Kolkata are hard to pin down because the cheapest gyms, the para clubs and byayam samitis, don't publish prices at all, and only one big chain prints its Kolkata fees online. The table puts what is published next to the best available estimates, each turned into a monthly figure. Everything was checked on 27 October 2026.
| Type of gym | Published or estimated price | Per month | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| HIDCO open-air gym, Eco Urban Village, New Town | ₹10 entry per visit | ₹10 a visit | WBHIDCO |
| Para gym or byayam samiti | Not published | Ask at the club | None found |
| Apartment gym in New Town or Rajarhat | Covered by maintenance | Varies | Ask your association |
| Budget local gym | ₹1,500–2,500 a month | ₹1,500–2,500 | magicpin (estimate) |
| Typical membership, crowd-sourced | ₹1,525 average (₹1,000–3,000) | ₹1,000–3,000 | Numbeo, October 2026 |
| Gold's Gym New Town, annual | ₹32,000 a year with GST | about ₹2,667 | Gold's Gym |
| Gold's Gym Salt Lake DD30, annual | ₹32,567 a year with GST | about ₹2,714 | Gold's Gym |
| Premium chains, monthly | ₹4,000–9,000 a month | ₹4,000–9,000 | magicpin (estimate) |
If you searched for gym fees under ₹500 in Kolkata, the honest answer is that we couldn't find a published one. The lowest figure anyone reports, Numbeo's ₹1,000, comes from a survey, and the cheapest para gyms set their fees in person. The New Town open-air gym, at ₹10 a visit, is the only published option below that.
Para gyms and byayam samitis: Kolkata's cheapest option
Kolkata's neighbourhood gyms have deep roots. Bengal saw large numbers of akhras, or gymnasiums, spring up in the 1860s and 1870s, and the Anushilan Samiti, founded on 24 March 1902, grew out of a conglomeration of local youth groups and gyms before it became a revolutionary society. Many of the city's older paras still have a club gym or a byayam samiti (exercise society) in that tradition.
What they rarely do is publish prices. Fees are usually agreed at the desk, sometimes with a separate admission fee, and they can be lower than any figure in the table above. Equipment varies a lot from club to club, so check for the basics yourself: barbells, dumbbells, a bench and a rack, and ask about fans or air-conditioning. Before you pay, ask three things:
- Is there a one-time admission fee, and is the monthly fee the same all year, or does it change after the first month?
- What are the hours, and are there separate morning and evening batches, or a break in the afternoon?
- Does the gym close for Durga Puja or club events, and is that week deducted from the fee?
Salt Lake and New Town: Gold's Gym's published prices
Gold's Gym is the one chain we found that publishes Kolkata membership prices, as an annual plan on each branch page. Both branches add a ₹1,000 enrolment fee and 5% GST:
| Branch | Annual fee | Enrolment and 5% GST | Total | Per month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Salt Lake DD30, opposite City Centre 1 | ₹30,016 | ₹1,000 + ₹1,551 | ₹32,567 | about ₹2,714 |
| New Town, Action Area I | ₹29,476 | ₹1,000 + ₹1,524 | ₹32,000 | about ₹2,667 |
Hours differ. Salt Lake listed 6 AM to 11 PM Monday to Saturday and 8 AM to 8 PM on Sunday; New Town listed 6 AM to 11 PM Monday to Saturday and 9 AM to 6 PM on Sunday. Neither page showed a monthly or quarterly plan or a freeze policy, so ask at the desk if you don't want to pay for a year upfront.
Open air gym in Kolkata: New Town's ₹10 option
The cheapest published gym in Kolkata is outdoors. WBHIDCO, the state agency that developed New Town, runs Eco Urban Village, a 3-acre site of natural vegetation beside a 23-acre water body, and has added an open-air gym there whose equipment is free to use. Entry to the village costs ₹10 per head for anyone aged 3 and above. It's open Tuesday to Sunday, 9 AM to 6 PM, with the counter closing at 5:30 PM, and closed on Mondays.
Those hours rule out the early-morning slot most people want in a humid city, and outdoor machines can't be loaded heavier as you get stronger. As a cheap weekend add-on for a New Town family, though, it's hard to beat. We couldn't find a published fee list for gyms run by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, so check with your ward office about parks near you. Our guide to running tracks in Kolkata covers free outdoor places to train.
What the estimates say about average gym fees in Kolkata
Two secondary sources give an average gym membership cost in Kolkata, and they disagree. magicpin, a deals platform, published a Kolkata gym guide (dated October 2026 in its header and April 2026 in its footer) with these monthly ranges:
| Gym or type | Estimated monthly fee |
|---|---|
| Budget local gym | ₹1,500–2,500 |
| Fit & Fine Fitness (budget chain) | ₹2,000–3,500 |
| Mid-range local gym | ₹2,500–4,000 |
| Talwalkars | ₹3,000–5,000 |
| Cult.fit | ₹4,000–6,000 |
| Anytime Fitness | ₹4,500–7,000 |
| Gold's Gym | ₹5,000–8,000 |
| Fitness First | ₹5,000–9,000 |
Numbeo, which collects prices reported by its users, put a monthly fitness club membership in Kolkata at ₹1,525 (range ₹1,000–3,000) on 26 October 2026. The gap matters most for Gold's: magicpin's ₹5,000–8,000 a month is two to three times what the published annual plans work out to. A month-by-month price, if the branch sells one, would usually be higher than the annual rate, which may explain part of it. Trust the published price, then confirm it at the desk.
Apartment gyms and gym passes in Rajarhat and New Town
Many of the newer complexes in New Town and Rajarhat include a gym paid for through maintenance, which doesn't appear in any price list. If you have one, count what's in it before paying anyone else: dumbbells up to around 20 kg, an adjustable bench and a cable or pulley station are enough for months of steady progress. A clubhouse gym with only a treadmill and a multi-station machine is where personal gym training in Kolkata earns its keep, because a coach can plan around exactly what's there.
Multi-gym passes are the other route if your week is split, say, between home in Dum Dum and an office in Sector V. Fitpass's Kolkata page advertised plans at ₹1,750 and ₹2,083 a month in October 2026, for partner gyms across 150+ cities. That's more than Numbeo's average single-gym fee, so it only pays off if you'd really use gyms in two parts of the city.
Annual plan or monthly: the Kolkata maths
An annual plan looks cheapest per month, and it's where the risk sits. At Gold's Salt Lake, ₹32,567 for a year is about ₹2,714 a month if you go all year. Stop after four months and you've effectively paid about ₹8,140 a month. Kolkata's calendar adds two predictable breaks: the heaviest monsoon weeks, when getting to the gym through waterlogged streets is the hard part, and Durga Puja, when many people stop training for a week or more.
A sensible rule: buy the shortest plan you're sure you'll finish, then renew for longer. If a gym only sells annual plans, ask about freezes and transfers before paying.
GST, admission fees and Puja-season freezes
- GST is 5% on gym services. The GST Council cut the rate from 18% to 5%, without input tax credit, from 22 September 2025, PTI reported. Both Gold's Kolkata pages add 5%. If a gym quotes 18%, ask why.
- Admission or enrolment fees. Gold's adds ₹1,000; para gyms often charge a one-time admission fee too. Ask whether it's waived on a longer plan.
- Freezes. Neither Gold's page states a freeze policy. If you travel for the Pujas or for work, get the freeze rule in writing.
- The real total. Check whether lockers, towels or steam cost extra, and whether the quoted price includes GST.
Checklist before joining a Kolkata gym
- 1
Go at your real training hour
A Salt Lake gym that's quiet at 11 AM can be packed at 7 PM when Sector V empties. Visit at the time you'll actually train.
- 2
Check the cooling and the power backup
In a humid June, a gym without working fans or AC is one you'll skip. Ask what happens in a power cut.
- 3
Walk the route in the rain
If the lane to the gym floods in a heavy shower, you'll miss sessions every monsoon. A gym on a main road or in your building may be worth a higher fee.
- 4
Ask what floor help is included
General guidance is usually in the fee; one-to-one training is extra. Our guide to gym trainer fees in Kolkata covers what that costs.
- 5
Get Puja closures and refunds in writing
Ask whether the gym closes during Durga Puja and whether those days are added back.

If a gym doesn't suit you at all, personal home training in Kolkata needs only a mat and some floor.
