VMC gym fees in Vadodara: Sama and Manjalpur
Vadodara is one of the few Indian cities where the municipal corporation puts its gym prices online as a downloadable rate card. The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) runs two indoor sports complexes, at Sama in the north of the city and Manjalpur in the south, and each has a gym open to anyone above 14. The rate cards, filed on the VMC website and branded with the Vadodara Sports Promotion Foundation (VSPF) and the Sports Authority of Gujarat, give identical gym prices for both:
| Sama Sports Complex | Manjalpur Sports Complex | |
|---|---|---|
| Gym, 2 months | ₹1,600 | ₹1,600 |
| Gym, 1 year | ₹10,000 | ₹10,000 |
| Who can join | Age above 14 | Age above 14 |
| Morning batches | 6–7, 7–8, 8–9 AM | 6–7, 7–8, 8–9 AM |
| Evening batches | 5–6, 6–7, 7–8, 8–9 PM | 5–6, 6–7, 7–8, 8–9 PM |
| Registration | ₹20, or ₹50 online | ₹20, or ₹50 online |
The cards are stored in the VMC's 2024 documents folder and carry no other date, so they may have been revised since. Neither says whether GST is included, and neither mentions a trainer: the gym plan is simply called Regular. The VSPF's own website, which handled bookings, wasn't loading when we tried it in October 2026, so confirm the current price with the complex manager, whose phone number is printed on each card.
Two months or a full year at a VMC gym: why the short plan wins
Most gyms reward you for paying a year upfront. Vadodara's municipal gyms do the opposite. Six two-month plans at ₹1,600 add up to ₹9,600 a year, which is ₹400 less than the ₹10,000 annual plan. Per month, that's ₹800 against about ₹833.
There are still reasons to buy the year: one payment, no risk of losing your batch slot at renewal, and protection if the two-month price goes up mid-year. But if you're not sure you'll last, the two-month plan costs less and lets you stop after eight weeks. Ask at the counter whether the ₹20 registration is charged again at each renewal; at ₹20 it hardly changes the maths, but it's worth knowing.
What the Sama complex has, and what else it charges
The Sama Indoor Sports Complex is a large municipal project. According to the VMC's project page, it sits on a 33,000 square metre plot and cost about ₹65 crore. It has an eight-lane, 50-metre racing pool and a 5-metre-deep diving pool, six synthetic badminton courts, three courts for basketball and volleyball, table tennis and a boxing ring, and a separate gymnasium building with a massage room and a warm-up room. For a family choosing between a gym and another sport, the Sama rate card prices the alternatives:
| Activity | 2 months | 1 year | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Swimming, swimmer | ₹1,200 (all 6 days) | ₹7,000 | Above 12; ladies batch 10–11 AM |
| Swimming, learner | ₹1,600 (3 days a week) or ₹3,200 (6 days) | ₹9,000 | Morning and evening batches |
| Badminton, regular | ₹2,000 (all 6 days) | ₹10,000 | Above 6 |
| Table tennis, regular | ₹1,000 | ₹6,000 | Above 14 |
| Gym | ₹1,600 | ₹10,000 | Above 14 |
Manjalpur's card adds athletics, at ₹1,000 for two months on three alternate days or ₹2,000 for all six days, and football at ₹1,125 or ₹2,250 for three months. A parent in south Vadodara could pay ₹1,600 for two months of gym and ₹1,000 for a child's athletics, ₹2,600 together, which is about ₹1,300 a month for both.
Vadodara's municipal swimming pools as a cheaper option
If what you want is regular exercise rather than weights specifically, Vadodara's municipal pools are cheaper still. The VMC lists pools at Lalbaug, Sardarbaug and the Rajiv Gandhi pool at Karelibaug, open to the public on payment of the fee. The most recent fee schedule on the VMC page, for 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2023, is in Gujarati and sets these rates:
| Member type | Entry fee | Monthly | Annual |
|---|---|---|---|
| General swimmer | ₹50 | ₹500 | ₹4,500 |
| Students, VMC staff, councillors, municipal pensioners | ₹25 | ₹250 | ₹2,000 |
| Learner | ₹50 | ₹500 plus ₹300 learner fee | Not listed |
Ladies' batches are listed at Sardarbaug from 3:45 to 4:30 PM and at Karelibaug and Lalbaug from 9:15 to 10 AM. A 2022–23 schedule is old, so expect the current fee to be higher; it's still a useful sense of scale. Swimming builds fitness well but not much strength, so if you swim, add two short strength sessions a week at home.
Private gym prices in Vadodara: the average and the passes
Private gyms in Vadodara rarely publish prices, and none of the national chains we checked lists a Vadodara membership price online. The best citywide figure is crowd-sourced. Numbeo puts a monthly fitness club membership in Vadodara at ₹1,597, with contributors' figures ranging from ₹583 to ₹3,000, as of its 26 October 2026 update. The Vadodara page had 418 price entries of all kinds from 30 contributors in the past year, so the gym number rests on a small sample, but it gives you a fair benchmark: a pay-monthly private gym asking much more than ₹2,000 should be offering something extra, such as air conditioning, longer hours or classes.
Multi-gym passes cost a little more than that average. FITPASS shows FITPASS 180 at ₹1,750 a month and FITPASS 360 at ₹2,083 a month on its Vadodara page, the same prices it shows for other cities, and lists partner gyms in localities including Alkapuri, Akota, Atladara, Ajwa Road and Airport Harni Main Road. A pass makes sense if you split your week between, say, an office in Alkapuri and a home off Ajwa Road.
Students sometimes search for gym fees at Parul University in Vadodara. We couldn't find a published gym fee from the university in October 2026, so ask the campus sports office. For anyone else, the VMC gyms above are the cheapest published option.
Average gym fees in Vadodara, compared over a year
| Option | Per month | Per year | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| VMC gym, six 2-month plans | ₹800 | ₹9,600 | Fixed-hour training on a budget |
| VMC gym, annual plan | about ₹833 | ₹10,000 | Keeping the same batch all year |
| VMC pool, general swimmer (2022–23 rate) | ₹500 | ₹4,500 | Cardio without weights |
| Private gym at Numbeo's average | ₹1,597 | about ₹19,170 | Flexible hours |
| FITPASS 180 | ₹1,750 | ₹21,000 | Training across several gyms |
The gap is roughly double between a VMC gym and a typical private one. What the private gym buys is flexibility: walk in whenever, stay as long as you want. What the VMC gym buys is a lower bill and a fixed slot. Neither includes a coach. GST on gym services is 5%, cut from 18% under the change announced in September 2025, according to The Tribune; on a ₹1,600 plan that's ₹80, if it's charged.
Six checks before you sign up at a Vadodara gym
- Ask for the printed rate card. The VMC publishes one; a private gym should be able to show one too.
- See the GST line. It should be 5%. Ask whether the quoted price already includes it.
- Confirm the batch or hours. At Sama and Manjalpur you train in your booked hour only.
- Check the AC and the fans. Vadodara's summer afternoons are hot, and an evening batch in a non-AC hall is a different workout from a morning one.
- Count the squat racks. In a busy 7 PM batch, one rack between twenty people means waiting.
- Start short. At a VMC gym the two-month plan is cheaper per month than the annual one; at a private gym, a month costs less than an unused year.
Where a coach fits with a Vadodara gym membership
A VMC gym at ₹800 a month gives you equipment and a slot, but no one to tell you what to do with them. MakeMyFitness adds that, live on video. We have no gym or studio in Vadodara and nobody visits; your coach joins your phone on a call, watches your form and corrects it as you lift. Sessions run from 6 AM to 8 PM, so a 6–7 AM or 7–8 AM VMC batch lines up neatly with a 45-minute coached session.
The cost, honestly: a VMC gym at ₹800 a month plus our 4-week personal gym training in Vadodara plan at ₹7,070 is ₹7,870 a month. If you've been cleared by a doctor or physio after an injury and want guided training, rehab and recovery coaching in Vadodara is ₹1,299 a session. And our group classes in Vadodara are ₹499 a session for small-group training at home. Every price is below and on the pricing page; trainer rates in the city are compared in our guide to personal trainer fees in Vadodara.
| Program | One session | 4-week plan (12 sessions) | Per session on the plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Personal Gym Training1:1, 45 minutes | ₹799 | ₹7,070 | about ₹589 |
| Personal Home Training1:1, 45 minutes | ₹899 | ₹8,080 | about ₹673 |
| Rehab & Recovery1:1, once a doctor or physio has cleared you | ₹1,299 | ₹12,121 | about ₹1,010 |
