Marathon Mumbai 2026 and 2027: what has run and what is next
Mumbai’s road-race year is bunched into the dry months. The Tata Mumbai Marathon (TMM) owns the third Sunday of January, the WNC Navy Half Marathon comes in late November, and a string of smaller half marathons and 10Ks fills the weekends from November to March. One race deliberately goes the other way: NEB Sports’ Mumbai Half Marathon runs in BKC at the end of August, deep in the monsoon. Here is where each one stands on 27 October 2026.
| Race | Usual month | Distances | 2026 edition / next edition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tata Mumbai Marathon | Third Sunday of January | 42.195 km, 21.097 km, Open 10K, Dream Run, 4.2 km seniors’ run | Held 18 January 2026; next on 17 January 2027 |
| WNC Navy Half Marathon | November, around Navy Day | 21K, 10K, 5K | 22 November 2026; registrations closed |
| NEB Sports Mumbai Half Marathon | Late August | Half marathon, 10K, 5K | Held 30 August 2026 (9th edition); 2027 date not announced |
| Smaller halves and 10Ks (aggregator listing) | November to March | Usually 21K, 10K, 5K | e.g. Aamchi Mumbai Marathon 3 January 2027, Kisna Diamond Marathon 10 January 2027 |
Tata Mumbai Marathon 2027: categories, fees and cut-offs
The TMM is organised by Procam International and was first run in 2004. The 2027 edition is on Sunday 17 January 2027. Registration opens in separate windows for each category, and most windows have already closed. According to the official race FAQs, the marathon window opened on 31 July 2026 and closes on 5 November 2026 at 11:59 PM, or earlier if places run out. The half marathon window ran from 4 to 18 August 2026, and the Open 10K opened on 11 August 2026.
| Category | Fee (incl. GST) | Minimum age | Time limit |

| Marathon, 42.195 km | ₹5,000 | 18 | Results only within 7 hours of your start |
| Half Marathon, 21.097 km | ₹3,500 | 18 | Results only within 3 hours 30 minutes |
| Open 10K | ₹2,100 plus ₹651 Green Bib contribution | 15 | Check the official rules |
| Senior Citizens’ Run, 4.2 km | ₹499 | 60 | Non-competitive |
| Champions with Disability, 1.3 km | ₹499 (plus ₹499 per buddy) | 12 | Non-competitive |
Unlike most Indian races, the TMM full and half are not open sign-ups. You need a timing certificate from an earlier race. For 2027, a qualifying result must come from an event held on or after 17 July 2025. To enter the marathon as a timed runner, you need a full marathon under 7 hours, or a half marathon under 2 hours 45 minutes for men and 3 hours for women. The half marathon has a ‘fastest runner first’ route with age-graded standards: under 2:35 for men aged 18 to under 30 and 2:50 for women in that bracket, easing to 3:35 and 3:50 for runners aged 70 and over.
The TMM course: CSMT, Marine Drive, the Sea Link and the Coastal Road
The Tata Mumbai Marathon course is a tour of the city’s sea front. The full marathon starts opposite Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and passes Flora Fountain, Marine Drive, Chowpatty, Haji Ali, Mahim and the Bandra–Worli Sea Link before returning south. In 2026 the route added Mumbai’s new Coastal Road. Marathon start waves begin at 5 AM and the start line closes at 5:30 AM, after which nobody may start. Check the official route map for 2027 before race day rather than relying on older maps.
The FatMarathoner race guide (updated 19 October 2026) adds detail that isn’t yet official: a total climb of under 80 m, with the main efforts on the Sea Link approach ramp and the Pedder Road flyover in the last third of the full marathon, and a half marathon that starts near Mahim Causeway and finishes in south Mumbai. Treat those as a guide to what to train for, not as the final course. The practical point stands either way: the course is mostly flat, but the bridges and flyovers come when your legs are tired.
Race morning in January: what Mumbai’s weather does to your pace
January is one of Mumbai’s best running months on paper. India Meteorological Department normals for Santacruz (1991–2020) give an average low of 16.9 °C, a high of 31.2 °C, no rain and evening humidity of 49%, the lowest of any month bar February. But a marathon that starts at 5 AM and takes four or five hours finishes in late-morning sun near 30 °C, and early-morning humidity by the sea is higher than the evening figure. Sunrise comes after 7 AM, so the first two hours of the full marathon are run in the dark.
- Start conservatively. The cool first hour tempts you to bank time. Most of the cost arrives after 9 AM, on the Sea Link and the flyovers.
- Drink to a plan. Practise drinking every 20 to 30 minutes on your December long runs, and take electrolytes on anything over 90 minutes.
- Wear a cap and sunscreen even though you start in darkness; you will finish in full sun.
WNC Navy Half Marathon: the November race
The Western Naval Command’s half marathon is held in the run-up to Navy Day on 4 December. The official site lists the 2026 edition on 22 November 2026, with three races named after warships: the 21K Aircraft Carrier Run, the 10K Destroyer Run and the 5K Frigate Run. As of late October 2026, all three were closed, and the 5K was marked sold out at ₹1,000 for civilians and ₹800 for defence personnel. For the 2027 edition, watch the official site from the middle of the year, because places sell out.
Mumbai Half Marathon in BKC: the monsoon race
NEB Sports’ Mumbai Half Marathon is the city’s monsoon half marathon. The 9th edition was held on Sunday 30 August 2026 from Jio World Garden in Bandra Kurla Complex, with a half marathon, a 10K and a 5K fun run. The official cut-offs are 3 hours 30 minutes for the half, 1 hour 30 minutes for the 10K and 1 hour for the 5K; runners who miss them must withdraw and do not get a finisher’s certificate. August averages about 561 mm of rain over 21 rainy days, so training for it means doing your long runs in July, the wettest month of the year.
Training for a January race through Mumbai’s October heat
A 12 to 16 week build for the TMM starts in late September or October, which means your hardest weeks fall in Mumbai’s least comfortable stretch. IMD normals put the average high at 33.6 °C in October and 34.1 °C in November, the highest of the year, with October still bringing about 91 mm of late rain. December finally cools (lows of 18.4 °C), just in time for the peak long runs. Start every run by 6 AM until December, slow your easy pace by 20 to 30 seconds a kilometre on humid days, and judge long runs by time and effort rather than pace.
For long runs, the Marine Drive promenade gives just over 4 km each way without a crossing, and two out-and-backs plus a loop of Worli Sea Face covers most of a half marathon. Mahalaxmi Racecourse’s 2.2 km dirt track spares your legs on easy days, the 400 m synthetic track at Priyadarshini Park is the place for measured intervals, and the climbing road to Kanheri Caves in Sanjay Gandhi National Park prepares you for the bridges. Our guide to running tracks in Mumbai has the distances, access rules and park passes.
| Day | Session | Where in Mumbai |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Strength 1: goblet squats, Romanian deadlifts, calf raises, planks (45 minutes) | Home or your building gym |
| Tuesday | Intervals: 6 × 800 m at 10K effort, 400 m jog between | Priyadarshini Park track |
| Wednesday | Easy run, 5–6 km, on a soft surface | Mahalaxmi Racecourse |
| Thursday | Strength 2: step-ups, split squats, single-leg work, core (45 minutes) | Home or your building gym |
| Friday | Rest, or 30 minutes of walking | Anywhere |
| Saturday | Easy run, 5 km, plus 4 × 20-second strides | Shivaji Park laps or Carter Road |
| Sunday | Long run, building from 12 km to 18 km, starting by 5:30 AM | Marine Drive and Worli Sea Face |
Keep at least one easy day between the interval session and the long run, and don’t put a heavy leg session the day before either. Our half marathon training plan for beginners gives the full 12-week build week by week, and strength training for runners explains the lifting days.
Tapering for the third Sunday of January
The TMM date is fixed long in advance, so plan your taper from the first week of training. Cut your weekly distance over the final two weeks for a half marathon and about three for the full, keep a few short, brisk efforts so your legs stay sharp, and make the last strength sessions light and familiar. Collect your bib early in race week rather than crossing the city on the Saturday, and plan how you will reach CSMT before 5 AM: the start closes at 5:30 AM and road closures begin before dawn.
Mumbai’s everyday food works well for race week. In the last two days, lean on familiar, easily digested carbohydrates: poha, upma, varan bhaat, chapati with a light bhaji, and bananas. Leave vada pav, misal and anything deep-fried or very spicy for after the race, and on race morning eat what you tested before your long runs, such as a banana and a slice of toast with peanut butter about two hours before the start. Our Maharashtrian diet plan covers local meals, and the protein intake calculator sets a daily target for the training block.
