Udaipur marathon 2026 and the editions so far
When people search for the Udaipur marathon, they mean the Vedanta Zinc City Half Marathon. Hindustan Zinc, the Vedanta group company that calls Udaipur its Zinc City, runs it with the race organiser Anybody Can Run, and it is certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS). There is no full marathon: the longest distance is the half, 21.097 km. The race has grown fast in three years and has moved earlier in September each time, which matters for how you train.
| Edition | Race date | Reported field |
|---|---|---|
| 1st | 29 September 2024 | Described by the organiser as a successful debut |
| 2nd | 21 September 2025 | Nearly 7,000 runners from 27 states |
| 3rd | 6 September 2026 | Over 9,700 runners on-ground and virtual, from 27 states and six countries |
| 4th | Not announced in October 2026 | Watch Hindustan Zinc’s channels from about June |
For Udaipur marathon 2025 results and 2026 results, the organiser’s post-race release for the third edition names Mukesh Kumar as the men’s half-marathon winner in 1:08:47 and Pooja as the women’s winner in 1:26:09, with the 10 km won in 32:01 (Tehender) and 36:49 (Kumari Parru). Finishers in 2026 received a medal made from Hindustan Zinc’s 99.99% pure zinc. Full results by bib usually sit with the timing partner listed on your registration.
Categories, fees and age limits
The 2026 race kept the three distances used since the first edition, each named by the organiser. The fees below are from the official ticketing listing for 2026 and exclude GST and platform charges. Each runner could enter only one on-ground category, and category changes weren’t allowed after registration.
| Category | Distance | Fee | Minimum age |
|---|---|---|---|
| Half Marathon | 21.097 km | ₹2,000 | 18 |
| Cool Run | 10 km | ₹1,200 | 15 |
| Dream Run | 5 km | ₹500 | 12 |
The 2025 edition also ran a Race with Champions for children with disabilities, and the 2026 edition a Champions Race for rural community members and students from Hindustan Zinc’s education programme. A virtual option lets runners outside Udaipur take part. The race has run under the #RunForZeroHunger theme since 2024, timed in its first year to India’s national nutrition month.
How to register for the Udaipur half marathon
- When: registration for 2026 opened on 1 June through the official Udaipur Marathon and Hindustan Zinc platforms. In 2025, entries ran through Townscript with a 30% early-bird discount until 31 July.
- How fast it fills: by early August 2026 the race had over 5,500 registrations, including more than 800 for the half marathon, 1,500 for the 10 km and 3,200 for the 5 km.
- Bib collection: in 2026, bibs were collected in person at the Field Club, Udaipur, on 4 and 5 September from 11 AM to 6 PM, with government photo ID. Bibs were not couriered, so out-of-town runners should arrive by the Saturday.
- What you get: a timed bib, a finisher medal and certificate, hydration points and medical support on the course.
The course: Field Club, Fateh Sagar and the Aravalli backdrop
The race starts at the historic Field Club in Udaipur. According to the organiser’s 2026 announcement, the half-marathon route passes Fateh Sagar Lake, Rotary Circle, Sunset Point Park, Nehru Garden and Saheliyon ki Bari, with the Aravalli hills behind the lake; Hindustan Zinc bills it as India’s most beautiful marathon. Fateh Sagar is 2.4 km long, with about 8.5 km of shoreline, and its surface sits at 578 m, so the lakeside sections are flat. The roads between the lake and the city rise and fall gently, so expect short climbs rather than a flat course.
We couldn’t find a published elevation profile. The best preparation is to run the lake loop yourself: the pal along the north-eastern shore, then Rani Road and Moti Magri Road. Our guide to cycling in Udaipur describes the same circuit for riders.
A September race: Udaipur’s monsoon and what it means on race day
Most Indian half marathons are in winter. Udaipur’s is at the tail of the monsoon, and that changes both the race and the training. India Meteorological Department normals for Udaipur airport (1991–2020) give September an average high of 32.1 °C and low of 22.0 °C, with about 112 mm of rain over six rainy days. July and August, the heart of your training block, bring about 236 mm and 205 mm.
| Month | High / low | Rain | Training phase |
|---|---|---|---|
| June | 37.5 °C / 26.4 °C | 77 mm | Base: short, easy runs before 6:30 AM |
| July | 32.2 °C / 24.9 °C | 236 mm | Build: long runs between showers |
| August | 30.5 °C / 23.7 °C | 205 mm | Peak: race-pace work, longest runs |
| September | 32.1 °C / 22.0 °C | 112 mm | Taper and race |
Expect a warm, humid morning on race day even if it’s dry. Drink at every hydration point from the start rather than waiting until you’re thirsty, take a salty snack or electrolyte drink the evening before, and set a more conservative goal pace than you would for a cool winter race. If it rains, the start will be cooler and the roads slick at corners and on painted markings.
Twelve weeks to an early-September half marathon in Udaipur
If the next edition keeps an early-September date, count back twelve weeks to mid-June. The plan assumes you can run 5 km without stopping. It uses three runs and two strength sessions a week, and it moves runs indoors or onto covered ground on the heaviest rain days rather than skipping them. Our full half marathon training plan for beginners explains each session type.
| Weeks | Long run (weekend) | Midweek runs | Strength |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1–3 (June) | 6, 7, 8 km easy | Two easy 4–5 km runs before the heat | Two full-body sessions |
| 4–6 (early July) | 9, 10, 8 km (cut-back) | One easy run, one with 4 × 4 minutes steady | Two sessions; add single-leg work |
| 7–9 (late July–August) | 12, 14, 11 km | One easy run, one 5 km at goal pace | Two sessions, heavier |
| 10–11 (August) | 16, then 12 km | One easy run, one 6 km at goal pace | One full session, one light |
| 12 (race week) | Race: 21.097 km | Two short easy runs with strides | Mobility only |
- 1
Run the lake when it’s dry
Use the Fateh Sagar loop for long runs: water nearby, lights at dawn and the same roads as race day.
- 2
Have an indoor plan for downpours
On a washout day, swap a run for 30–40 minutes of brisk stair climbing or a strength circuit, then move the long run to the next dry morning.
- 3
Practise drinking on the move
Humid August long runs are the time to learn how much you need. Weigh yourself before and after one run to see how much you lose.
- 4
Strength twice a week, all twelve weeks
Split squats, calf raises, hip bridges and planks keep knees and Achilles tendons happy as the mileage rises. See strength training for runners.
A peak training week in August, Udaipur style
Weeks 9 to 11 carry the most running, and in Udaipur they fall in the wettest month. This is what one of those weeks looks like for a first-time half marathoner aiming to finish comfortably, with every session placed around the usual pattern of morning breaks in the rain.
| Day | Session | Where in Udaipur |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Rest or a 20-minute walk | Anywhere |
| Tuesday | Strength: split squats, Romanian deadlifts, calf raises, planks | Home or gym |
| Wednesday | 6 km including 5 km at goal pace | The Fateh Sagar pal at first light |
| Thursday | Easy 5 km, or 35 minutes of stairs if it pours | Lake roads, or your building’s stairwell |
| Friday | Strength, lighter, plus hip mobility | Home |
| Sunday | Long run of 14–16 km, easy pace | Two Fateh Sagar laps plus Rani Road |
Hindustan Zinc’s other half marathons
The Udaipur race is one of a series. When it announced the first edition in 2024, Hindustan Zinc also planned a Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon in October and a Vedanta Pink City Half Marathon in Jaipur in December. A September finish in Udaipur leaves enough recovery to run a winter half as your next goal; our guide to marathons in Jaipur covers the races there.
Race week and recovery in Udaipur
In the last three days, keep runs short and add a little more carbohydrate at each meal: an extra makki or wheat roti, a bowl of poha, rice with dal. Our page on healthy food in Udaipur has the calories for local staples, and the TDEE calculator shows how much more you burn in peak weeks. Collect your bib on the Friday if you can, so Saturday is quiet. After the race, walk for ten minutes, eat within an hour, and take two or three easy days; a walk to Neemach Mata from our treks near Udaipur guide is a good first outing once your legs feel normal.
If you would rather train at home through the rains, Personal Home Training in Udaipur needs only a mat and a step, and a running group can train together in group classes in Udaipur. For costs, see gym fees in Udaipur, and for everything else, online personal training in Udaipur.
