Mangalore Marathon 2026: not happening this year
If you searched for the Mangalore Marathon 2026 date, the answer from the organisers is that there isn’t one. The official site, mangaloremarathon.com, had been advertising the race for 15 November 2026 at Mangala Stadium, but its home page now says the Mangalore Marathon 2026 will not be held this year, and that the team is looking forward to the 2027 edition, with registration dates, routes and new features still to be announced (checked 28 October 2026). The site doesn’t give a reason. If you had been building towards November, you have two choices: hold your fitness for 2027, or retarget the Manipal Marathon in February.

The Mangalore Marathon course: Mangala Stadium to Tannirbhavi and back
The race is organised by the Mangalore Runners Club (MRC), a club its own site says was started by six runners and now runs a group session every Sunday, coaches beginners and puts out monthly training plans. MRC also helped organise Mangaluru’s first marathon, The Big Balipu, in 2016. Its own race starts and finishes at Mangala Stadium. According to the 2025 press release, the route runs to Tannirbhavi Beach and back, and the official page describes it as following the river with sea views. It is, the organisers say, the only marathon course in Dakshina Kannada certified by AIMS (the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races), which means the distance has been professionally measured; that matters if you want a time that counts for qualification elsewhere.
Two details are particular to this race. In 2025, 10K runners finished at Tannirbhavi and were offered a free ferry from the Tannirbhavi boat jetty back to Mangala Stadium. And the roads are handed back to traffic early: the rules aim to reopen them by 10:15 AM, and anyone still wearing a bib on the course after that is taken off in the organisers’ vehicles. Plan your pacing around that clock, not just the official cut-off.
Categories, age limits and cut-offs (2025 rules)
These are the rules published for the 2025 edition. The 2027 rules may change, but they show what the organisers expect.
| Category | Distance | Minimum age (on race day) | Key rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full marathon | 42.195 km | 18 | Reach 27 km within 3 hours 45 minutes or leave the course; finish within 6 hours for a timing certificate; 5½ hours for prize money |
| 20 Miler | 32 km | 18 | Same early road reopening applies |
| Half marathon | 21.0975 km | 15 | Cross the start line within 15 minutes of the gun to be timed |
| 10K | 10 km | 17 (open); 12–17 for the student run | Ferry back from Tannirbhavi in 2025 |
| 5K | 5 km | 17 (open); 8–17 for the student run | Timed |
| 2K Gammath Run | 2 km | Open to all | Under-12s must run with an adult |
- Entries are individual and non-refundable, and bibs can’t be transferred; swapping a bib means disqualification.
- Results are by net time, but only if you start from the designated line within 15 minutes of your category’s official start.
- Early-bird prices closed on 15 August for the 2025 race and 30 June for 2024, so registration has typically opened in mid-year.
Mangalore Marathon results and photos
Looking for Mangalore Marathon 2025 or 2024 results? Both edition pages on the official site link to the results, race-day photos and the prize-money winners in every category, including the separate student 10K and 5K. Under the race rules, the results announced on race day are provisional; final positions and prize entitlements are confirmed within 30 days of the event, and rankings use net time, measured by the timing tag on your bib from the moment you cross the start line.
Other races within reach of Mangaluru this season
With no November race in the city, the nearest big event is the Manipal Marathon, organised by the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) up the coast in Udupi district. Its official site lists the ninth edition for 14 February 2027 at KMC Greens, Manipal, with registration open online only. Its routes are described as IAAF and AIMS certified, and you can change category up to 45 days before race day, paying the difference to move up.
| Category | Distance | Entry fee |
|---|---|---|
| Full marathon | 42 km | ₹1,499 |
| Half marathon | 21 km | ₹999 |
| Competitive run | 10 km | ₹649 |
| Competitive run | 5 km | ₹399 |
| Fun run | 3 km | Free |
For week-to-week racing practice, the Mangalore Runners Club’s Sunday runs are the obvious place to start; the club says it coaches novice runners and organises monthly training programmes.
Race weather on the Mangaluru coast
A November date sits just after the monsoon’s tail. The India Meteorological Department’s 1991–2020 normals for Panambur show the monsoon’s tail still dropping 234 mm across about 10 rainy days in October, falling to 77 mm on 4 days in November and 14 mm in December. The heat doesn’t ease as much: November’s average daily high is 33.0 °C, with evening humidity around 71%. A February race in Manipal is drier still, but early starts matter just as much.
| Month | Average high / low | Rain and rainy days | Humidity at 5:30 PM |
|---|---|---|---|
| October | 31.2 °C / 23.8 °C | 234 mm, about 10 days | 79% |
| November | 33.0 °C / 23.3 °C | 77 mm, 4 days | 71% |
| December | 33.4 °C / 21.7 °C | 14 mm, under 1 day | 62% |
Training for a coastal race from a Mangaluru monsoon
The awkward part of a November race in Mangaluru is that most of the build-up falls in the monsoon, when the city gets well over 700 mm of rain in each of June, July and August. A February race like Manipal moves the build-up into October to January instead, which is far kinder. Either way, three habits help on this coast:
- Run early. Lows of 22–24 °C in the race months mean 6 AM is the only comfortable window; by 9 AM the humidity takes over.
- Practise drinking on the move. In 71–79% humidity you sweat heavily even at easy pace; use your long runs to rehearse taking water every 2–3 km.
- Keep strength work going when the rain cancels runs. Two short sessions a week of squats, lunges, calf raises and core work protect your knees and Achilles on the long efforts; our guide to strength training for runners has the full routine.
| Day | Session | Rain plan |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Strength, 40 minutes: squats, split squats, hip hinges, calf raises | Indoors anyway |
| Tuesday | Easy run, 5–6 km before 7 AM | 30 minutes of stair climbing |
| Wednesday | Rest or a 30-minute walk | Mobility at home |
| Thursday | Tempo run: 2 km easy, 3 km comfortably hard, 1 km easy | Intervals on a treadmill or stairwell |
| Friday | Strength, 30 minutes: single-leg work and core | Indoors anyway |
| Saturday | Rest | Rest |
| Sunday | Long run, building from 10 km to 18 km over the block | Move it to the next clear morning |
If you are new to the distance, start with our half marathon training plan for beginners, which assumes you can already run about 5 km and takes you to race day in 12 weeks. A long run plus strength sessions raises what you burn noticeably; the TDEE calculator shows by how much, and our page on healthy food in Mangaluru covers how fish, rice and idli fit around training.
Taper and race week
In the last 10 days, cut your weekly running by about a third, keep one short strength session and one short run at race pace, and sleep early. Eat familiar food: a rice meal with fish curry the evening before is a reasonable carbohydrate load for most people, but skip the ghee roast and fried snacks until after the finish. On the morning, arrive well before the start, since the rules don’t time anyone who crosses the line more than 15 minutes late.
