Kochi marathon 2026 date: two races, October and February
Searches for the “Kochi marathon” usually mean one of two different races. The Kochi Spice Coast Marathon, run by the Soles of Cochin running club, took place on 25 October 2026, two days before this guide was updated, and its provisional full and half marathon results are already on the official site. The Federal Bank Kochi Marathon, a separate event owned and promoted by CleoSportz, ran in February 2026 and returns for its 5th edition on 14 February 2027. Between them, smaller events fill the dry months.
| Race | Usual month | Distances | 2026 edition / next edition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kochi Spice Coast Marathon | October (2026 edition) | 42.195 km, 21.1 km, 5 km fun run | Held 25 October 2026; 2027 date not announced |
| Federal Bank Kochi Marathon | February | Marathon, half marathon, 10K, 3K Green Run | 8 February 2026 (aggregator listing); next on 14 February 2027 |
| Kochi Half Marathon | November (aggregator listing) | 21K, 10K, 5K | Listed for 29 November 2026; confirm with the organiser |
Kochi Spice Coast Marathon: Marine Drive, Fort Kochi and a 3:30 AM start
The Spice Coast Marathon starts and finishes at Marine Drive Ground, according to the official FAQ and participant information, and is described by the organisers as a “flat and fast course”. The full marathon runs a coastal route through Kochi’s heritage streets and along the backwaters, with “at least one landmark in every kilometer”. FatMarathoner’s race guide (an aggregator) adds that the route takes in Marine Drive and the heritage areas of Fort Kochi, with aid stations every 2 km, and that the race is presented with the Kochi Municipal Corporation and drew about 8,000 people in 2024.
| Category | Distance | Start | Cut-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full Marathon | 42.195 km | 3:30 AM | 6 hours 30 minutes, with intermediate checkpoint cut-offs |
| Half Marathon | 21.1 km | 4:30 AM | No cut-off |
| Fun Run | 5 km | 6:30 AM | No cut-off |
The very early starts are the race’s answer to Kochi’s heat: a 3:30 AM full-marathon start gets most runners home before the sun is high, and the finish line closes for every category at 10 AM. For 2026, registration was online only and closed on 10 October 2026, with regular fees of ₹1,750 for the full and half marathon and ₹800 for the fun run (₹1,500 and ₹700 early bird, until 15 August). There were no race-day entries, no transfers and no refunds, and bibs were collected in person at Decathlon Vyttila the day before. Under-18s could run the full or half only with a registered parent or guardian in the same category, and full and half runners had to show a previous finish or confirm they had trained for the distance.
The 2027 date had not been announced by 27 October 2026. Watch spicecoastmarathon.com and the Soles of Cochin channels from mid-2027, and expect a similar fee and deadline pattern.
Federal Bank Kochi Marathon 2027: 14 February, along the backwaters
The Federal Bank Kochi Marathon’s official site lists the 5th edition on 14 February 2027, with a route “along the serene backwaters of Kerala” and the exact course to be disclosed once finalised with the authorities. Categories are the marathon, half marathon and 10K (all timed) and a 3K Green Run. The 2026 edition, according to the FatMarathoner Kerala calendar (an aggregator), was held on 8 February 2026, and the official site links to its results.
| Category | Cut-off | Minimum age |
|---|---|---|
| Marathon (42K) | 6 hours 30 minutes | 18 |
| Half Marathon (21K) | 4 hours | 18 |
| 10K | 2 hours | 12 (younger with an adult) |
| 3K Green Run | About 1 hour (printed ambiguously) | 8 (younger with an adult) |
Online registration runs through the official site, kochimarathon.in. The FAQ says bibs and T-shirts are collected at the expo at the Kochi Marriott in Edappally on 12 and 13 February 2027, with no bib collection on race morning. Offline spot registration is possible only on those two days, without a timing chip or T-shirt. Cancellations aren’t refunded, but a registration can be transferred to someone else until two weeks before the race. The race venue and 2027 start times hadn’t been published by late October 2026; for the February 2025 edition, the site’s schedule flagged off the marathon at 4 AM, the half at 5 AM and the 10K at 6 AM.
Half marathons and mini marathons in Kochi
If you are looking for a Kochi half marathon in 2026, or a shorter “mini marathon” to start with, the FatMarathoner Kerala calendar (updated 24 October 2026) lists several smaller events. These are aggregator listings, so treat them as leads:
- Kochi Half Marathon: listed for 29 November 2026, with 21K, 10K and 5K.
- Kochi Marathon 2027: listed for 11 January 2027 with 42K, 21K, 10K and 5K, with no organiser named. 11 January 2027 is a Monday, which is unusual for a race, so confirm the date with the organiser before planning around it.
- Nammude Run Kochi: listed for 28 February 2027 (10K down to 1K); the 2026 South edition ran on 1 February 2026 with a 21K.
- Cochin Runners Half Marathon: held on 22 March 2026 (21K, 10K, 5K).
People also search for The Week Half Marathon and the Indian Navy half marathon in Kochi. Neither appears on the October 2026 calendar we checked, and we couldn’t find an official page for a 2026 or 2027 edition of either, so we can’t give a date. If you hear of a new edition, look for a measured, timed course and published cut-offs before paying.
Race-day weather in Kochi: October rain, February sun
Kochi’s two big races sit in very different weather. IMD normals for the Kochi naval base (1981–2010) give October, the Spice Coast month, an average high of 30.7 °C, a low of 24.1 °C and about 367 mm of rain over 14 rainy days, as the north-east monsoon brings a second wet spell. February, the Federal Bank Kochi Marathon month, is almost dry (27 mm over about one rainy day) but warm, at 32.0 °C by day and 24.2 °C at night, with evening humidity of 65% against October’s 77%. FatMarathoner puts October race mornings at roughly 27–31 °C with 80–85% humidity.
- For October: expect a wet start some years. Test your shoes and socks on wet roads, use anti-chafe balm, and plan to drink at every aid station from the start.
- For February: the risk is heat, not rain. Lows of about 24 °C mean the air is already warm at the start, and it heats up quickly after sunrise. Start conservatively and save effort for the final third.
- In both: there is no cool season in Kochi, so your race pace will be slower than the same effort in Bengaluru or Delhi in winter. Set your goal from training runs done in Kochi, not from a calculator.
Training for a Kochi race through the monsoon
The timing problem in Kochi is the monsoon. A 12-week build for the October Spice Coast Marathon runs from mid-July to October, through the city’s wettest stretch: July averages 576 mm of rain over about 23 days, August 379 mm. For the February Kochi Marathon, the build starts in mid-November and runs through the driest months, December and January, which is far easier. Some practical adjustments:
- Keep a wet-weather plan for every key session. If the long run is washed out, move it to the next clear morning rather than running on flooded roads, and do strength work instead.
- Run by effort and heart rate. With overnight lows of 23–26 °C, you won’t get a cool morning to test race pace. Judge your progress by the effort it takes, not your watch’s pace.
- Drink and replace salt. Long runs of 90 minutes or more in Kochi humidity need water and electrolytes; practise with what the race will serve.
For long runs, Kochi’s flat waterfronts are the obvious choice: repeated laps of the Marine Drive walkway and Queen’s Walkway, or the routes the Soles of Cochin Sunday groups use on Willingdon Island and in Kadavanthra. Our guide to running tracks in Kochi covers distances and the monsoon calendar.
A sample Kochi training week with two strength sessions
This is a sample week for someone eight to ten weeks out from a half marathon who already runs about 20 km a week. It uses two strength sessions and early starts. Our half marathon training plan for beginners gives the full 12-week build, and strength training for runners explains the lifting days.
| Day | Session | Where in Kochi |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Strength 1: squats, Romanian deadlifts, calf raises, planks (45 minutes) | Home or your apartment gym |
| Tuesday | Easy run, 5–6 km, plus 4 × 20-second strides, before 7 AM | Marine Drive walkway |
| Wednesday | Intervals: 6 × 3 minutes hard, 2 minutes easy jog | Queen’s Walkway or a measured stretch of Marine Drive |
| Thursday | Strength 2: step-ups, split squats, single-leg deadlifts, core (45 minutes) | Home or your apartment gym |
| Friday | Rest, or 30 minutes of walking | Anywhere |
| Saturday | Easy run, 5 km | Any flat route |
| Sunday | Long run, building from 10 km to 16–18 km, starting by 5:30 AM | Marine Drive laps or a Sunday club route |
Keep the strength days at least a day away from the interval session. When the monsoon cancels a run, don’t double up the next day: let the strength session carry the week.
Taper and race-week food, the Kerala way
Both Kochi races have fixed dates months ahead, so plan the taper from the start: run less over the last one to two weeks (longer for a full marathon), keep a few short, quick efforts, and keep strength sessions light and familiar. The half marathon training plan for beginners sets out the taper week by week.
Kerala food has good race-week fuel built in. In the last two days, lean on easily digested rice and starch: puttu with a little kadala curry, idiyappam, appam with a mild vegetable stew, rice with sambar or a light fish curry, and kanji, the rice gruel that also replaces fluid and salt in humid weather. Bananas, including the local nendran, make easy snacks. Leave the parotta with beef or chicken fry and other rich, oily meals for after the race. With a 3:30 AM or 4 AM start, most runners eat a small, familiar snack, such as a banana or two slices of toast, an hour or so before; test this before a long run first. The Kerala diet plan for weight loss and our protein intake calculator help you set up the rest of the training block, and healthy food in Kochi covers local dishes.
