What an online weight loss trainer does
An online weight loss trainer is a personal trainer who coaches you over a live video call instead of standing beside you in a gym. You train in your living room or at the gym you already pay for; the trainer is on your phone or laptop, watching every rep, correcting your form and deciding what comes next. The coaching has three layers, and the sessions are only the visible one.
| Layer | What it is | How often |
|---|---|---|
| Live sessions | 45 minutes of strength-led training on Google Meet, planned around your space and equipment, coached rep by rep | 3 a week |
| Targets between sessions | A daily step goal, a protein target, a modest calorie deficit and a sleep window, set from your own numbers | Checked at every session |
| Weekly review | Weekly average weight, waist, the loads and reps in your lifts, steps and sleep, with the plan adjusted when they move or stall | Every week |
| Food guidance | Practical direction from a coach who is a certified Human Performance Nutritionist: portions, swaps and protein in the meals you already eat | Ongoing |
What the trainer is not: a dietitian, a doctor or an app. We don't write diet charts, prescribe medicines or treat conditions. If you mainly need a meal plan, or your weight is tied to diabetes, a thyroid problem, PCOS or a medicine, a doctor or registered dietitian should set that part, and your trainer coaches exercise around their advice. For a fair look at the alternatives, including app coaching and dietitian plans, read online weight loss programs in India compared.
How online weight loss training works
- 1
Book one session, not a plan
Pick home or gym training on the booking form and tell us your goal, any injuries or health conditions and where you'll train. The first session is a normal paid session, not a free trial, and nothing renews.
- 2
A short call to set your slot
Someone from the team calls to confirm a time between 6 AM and 8 PM India time and sends a private Google Meet link. Sessions can be moved with 24 hours' notice.
- 3
Session one is an assessment
Your trainer asks about your routine, watches you move through a few basic exercises and sets your starting level and first targets. Your first session describes it minute by minute.
- 4
Train live three times a week
Each session is full-body strength work with a short conditioning finish, coached in real time. Your trainer logs every set so the next session is a little harder.
- 5
Review every week, adjust when needed
Weekly averages, waist and lifts are compared with the week before. If the trend stalls, food, steps and sleep are checked before anything drastic changes.
Home, your gym or a group class: where to train
| Format | Price | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| One-to-one at home (Personal Home Training) | ₹899 a session; ₹8,080 for 12 | Beginners, busy parents, anyone who'd rather not commute or be watched in a gym |
| One-to-one at your gym (Personal Gym Training) | ₹799 a session; ₹7,070 for 12 | Gym members with no plan who want heavier lifting and every set checked |
| Live group classes (Group Classes) | ₹499 a class; ₹4,040 for 12 | A tighter budget, or people who train better with others on the call |
Most people losing weight start at home. A mat and about two by two metres of floor are enough, and the trainer keeps the work low-impact if you live in a flat. If you already pay for a gym, training there costs less per session and gives your trainer more to work with. Prices are the same in every city; see pricing.
What results to expect from an online weight loss trainer
A safe, sustainable pace is 0.5 to 1 kg a week. The NHS advises aiming for that range, and the CDC notes that people who lose weight gradually and steadily are more likely to keep it off. Over 12 weeks that is roughly 6 kg for most people, and more only for someone with a great deal to lose. Anyone promising 10 kg in a month is promising water, muscle and a rebound.
| After | At 0.5 kg a week | At 1 kg a week | What else should have changed |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 weeks | About 2 kg | About 4 kg | Waist down 1 to 3 cm; the same lifts feel easier |
| 8 weeks | About 4 kg | About 8 kg | Clothes looser; reps and loads up in every lift |
| 12 weeks | About 6 kg | About 12 kg (rarely sustainable) | Steps and sleep are habits; strength higher than in week 1 |
Faster is not better, even when it works. A 2022 review in Current Obesity Reports of 13 studies in which the same weight was lost quickly or slowly found that faster loss may take off more fat-free mass and less fat during the losing phase, along with bigger drops in resting energy use. Your trainer sets the pace from your weekly averages, not from a target date.
Why your trainer has you lifting, not only doing cardio
A calorie deficit decides whether you lose weight; training decides what that weight is made of. A 2022 meta-analysis in Obesity Reviews pooled 114 trials in people with overweight or obesity and found that resistance training combined with calorie restriction reduced fat mass by about 5.3 kg and body fat by 3.8 percentage points against no intervention, while lean mass was maintained. Strength training alone, without a diet, still cut fat by about 1 kg and added about 0.8 kg of lean mass.
You can also get stronger while eating less. A 2022 meta-analysis in the Scandinavian Journal of Medicine and Science in Sports found that strength gains from resistance training were comparable with or without an energy deficit, even though gains in lean mass were held back, and that a deficit of about 500 kcal a day was the point at which lean mass stopped growing. That is why your trainer keeps the deficit modest and keeps your lifts climbing: holding the same or more weight while the scale trends down is the clearest sign you are losing fat rather than muscle. The training side is covered in detail on online fat loss training.
Steps and cardio between sessions
Three sessions a week are a small share of your week, so your trainer also sets what happens on the other days. The dose matters. The American College of Sports Medicine's position stand on physical activity for weight loss concludes that 150 to 250 minutes a week of moderate activity gives only modest weight loss on its own, that more than 250 minutes a week is associated with clinically significant loss, and that 150 to 250 minutes improves results when combined with a moderate calorie cut. A 2024 dose-response meta-analysis in JAMA Network Open of 116 trials put a number on it: each extra 30 minutes a week of aerobic exercise was linked to about 0.52 kg more weight lost and 0.56 cm off the waist.
For most clients that dose is walking. A review of step counts in adults puts about 7,000 to 8,000 steps a day as a reasonable threshold for healthy adults, with 30 minutes of brisk walking worth roughly 3,000 to 4,000 of them. Your trainer starts from your own average and raises it by 1,000 to 2,000 steps a day each week, so the target is never a jump to 10,000 on day one. Read walking for weight loss for pacing, heat and air-quality days.
Food guidance from an online weight loss trainer
Food does most of the losing, so it comes up at every check-in. The guidance is practical rather than prescriptive: a protein target, portion sizes for the meals you already cook, and swaps that make a deficit easier to keep. The International Society of Sports Nutrition suggests 1.4 to 2.0 g of protein per kg of body weight a day for people who exercise, spread across meals; for someone weighing 75 kg that is roughly 105 to 150 g a day from dal, curd, paneer, eggs, chicken, fish or soya.
- Estimate what you burn with the TDEE calculator, then set a daily target with the calorie deficit calculator. A deficit of 300 to 500 kcal a day is the usual starting point.
- Work out your protein number with the protein intake calculator, and find real servings in protein in Indian food.
- Keep your own kitchen: regional plans for South Indian, Punjabi, Gujarati and Bengali meals show how a deficit looks in food you recognise.
- If the scale stops for three weeks while your waist and lifts stay flat too, your trainer goes through food, steps and sleep before changing the training. Not losing weight in a calorie deficit explains the usual reasons.
Does weight loss coaching over video work?
The honest answer has two parts. First, a trainer mostly changes how well and how often you train, not the physics of a deficit: a 2022 systematic review of supervision in resistance training found a moderate advantage for supervised training on strength and little effect on body composition by itself. Second, supervision over video holds up. A 2025 meta-analysis in Age and Ageing of 28 randomised trials of exercise supervised live by videoconference found average attendance of about 80% and completion of about 93%, improvements in physical function and muscle strength over no intervention, and, in the higher-quality studies, effectiveness comparable to other ways of delivering the same exercise.
How much an online weight loss trainer costs in India
Live coaching is priced per session, because a trainer is with you for the whole workout. There is no joining fee, no contract and nothing that renews by itself; you pay for one session or one 4-week plan of 12 at a time. These are the prices in every city.
| Program | One session | 4-week plan (12 sessions) | Per session on the plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Personal Gym Training1:1, 45 minutes | ₹799 | ₹7,070 | about ₹589 |
| Personal Home Training1:1, 45 minutes | ₹899 | ₹8,080 | about ₹673 |
| Rehab & Recovery1:1, once a doctor or physio has cleared you | ₹1,299 | ₹12,121 | about ₹1,010 |
| Group ClassesPer person, small group | ₹499 | ₹4,040 | about ₹337 |
On a 4-week plan that works out to about ₹589 a session at your gym and ₹673 at home, for three live sessions a week. Compare that with the fees for an in-person trainer in personal trainer fees in India, or work out a month for your own schedule below.
Which program?
How many sessions a week?
Rupees for your month on 4-week plans
- 12 live sessions a month, about ₹673 each on a plan.
- ₹10,788 if you pay ₹899 per session instead.
- No subscription. A plan is 12 sessions to use within 6 weeks of the first, so at two a week it simply lasts longer.

How to choose an online weight loss trainer
Many services use the words "online weight loss trainer" for very different things, from a PDF plan to a coach who watches you train. Before paying anyone, including us, check these.
- Is the coaching live or recorded? Ask whether a person watches you train in real time. At MakeMyFitness every session is live on Google Meet; nothing is pre-recorded and there is no app to install.
- Who is the trainer, and what are they certified in? Our lead coach, Kumar Abhishek, holds a Diploma in Personal Training and is a certified Human Performance Nutritionist (K11 School of Fitness Sciences).
- Are prices published? If you can't find the price without a sales call, assume it depends on the call. Ours are on the pricing page.
- What does the trainer promise? A promised number of kilos in a month is a warning sign. The pace should be set from your weekly numbers.
- How is food handled? Guidance you can live with, or a chart you'll abandon in week three? And will they send you to a doctor or dietitian when they should?
- Can you stop? A subscription that renews is not the same as a plan you choose to repeat.
The wider checklist, including questions for in-person trainers, is in how to choose a personal trainer.
Who an online weight loss trainer suits
- People who have tried apps and stopped. A booked session with a trainer waiting on the call is harder to skip than a notification.
- Working professionals whose days run long: no commute, and a slot before the first meeting or after the last one. See online personal trainer for working professionals.
- Beginners and anyone self-conscious in a gym. You learn the movements at home, at your own pace, with one person watching. See online personal training for overweight beginners.
- Women who want a trainer without a gym floor. Online personal trainer for women covers the practical questions.
- Indians living abroad who want a coach who understands dal and roti. Coaching hours run 6 AM to 8 PM India time, which covers early mornings in the Gulf and evenings in the UK; see an Indian personal trainer online abroad.
