When is it cool enough to train outdoors in Ras Al Khaimah?

Ras Al Khaimah is cool enough for outdoor training from November to March. Climate normals for 1991–2020 at Ras Al Khaimah International Airport put the November average high at 32.0°C, falling to 25.2°C in January, with nights between 12°C and 18°C. From May to September the average high stays above 40°C on the coast, peaking at 43.3°C in July, and the July night only drops to 29.7°C.

Rain barely interrupts a RAK training year. The airport records about 115 mm across the whole year, and about 99 mm of that falls from December to March. What does interrupt it is the long hot season: five months above 40°C, when even a 6 AM run on Al Marjan Island starts warm. The practical plan is outdoors in winter, strength work indoors all year.

How much cooler is Jebel Jais than the RAK coast?

Jebel Jais runs about 13–14°C cooler than the Ras Al Khaimah coast, month for month. The National Center of Meteorology’s 2003–2021 averages for the mountain station put the July high at 30.5°C, against 43.3°C at the airport. In January the mountain averages 11.2°C by day and 6.4°C at night, and the coldest reading on record there is −5.7°C, in February.

Snow is rare but real. Wikipedia’s Jebel Jais article records snow in January 2009 and February 2017, and snow and hail in January 2020. The summit itself, at 1,934 m, sits just across the border in Oman; the UAE side’s highest point, at 1,892 m, is reached by a 36 km road that hairpins up from the plain. Bring a warm layer in winter: one drive takes you from a 25°C beach to a ridge averaging 11°C.

Which Jebel Jais hiking trails can you walk, and how long are they?

Jebel Jais has five guided trails from the Bear Grylls Explorers Camp, from 2.5 km to 9.6 km, listed on Visit Jebel Jais when we checked on 28 October 2026. The trails are open to the public and free to walk on your own; the prices below are for guided walks. The minimum age for a guided walk is 8, depending on its length.

Bigger routes are coming. Gulf News reported on 15 September 2026 that the mountain’s developer, Marjan, is building an 80 km Grand Loop linking the existing trails, and a five-day Via Ferrata of up to 20 km in four sections. Both are still in development through the 2026–27 season, and Visit Jebel Jais says trail signage is being renewed from October, so check before you set out.

If the 9.6 km Hidden Oasis Loop is your goal, train for it like a race. A five-to-six-hour walk with steep descents loads the quads, knees and calves far more than flat running does, so the work that matters happens at home: step-ups, split squats, Romanian deadlifts, loaded carries and slow calf raises, three times a week for six to eight weeks.

Where can you run, walk or cycle on the Ras Al Khaimah coast?

Ras Al Khaimah’s coastal routes are spread between the resort strip in the south and the old town in the north. Dubizzle’s guide to RAK cycling routes gives the distances below; none of them is long, so most runners repeat a loop.

  • Al Marjan Corniche: a 3.5 km cycling track on the south-western edge of Al Marjan Island, linking to Al Hamra Village, with cafés, play areas and bike stations along it. Al Marjan Island is also where the RAK Half Marathon is run.
  • Al Jazirah Al Hamra beach trail: a 7.5 km loop between the Gulf and the Hajar foothills, mostly flat with a few short climbs. A good long-run route from Mina Al Arab or Al Hamra.
  • Al Qawasim Corniche: the city waterfront near Al Nakheel and the old town, with the RAK Eye, a 37 m Ferris wheel, as a landmark.
  • Wadi Shawkah: a 15 km mountain-bike route from Shawka Dam over rocky valley floor, for riders with off-road experience and a map.
  • Jebel Jais road climb: Dubizzle lists the Jebel Jais loop at about 43 km for road cyclists, ending near the zip line. At 2,832 m, Wikipedia records it as having opened in 2018 as the world’s longest.

When is the Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathon 2027?

The Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathon 2027 is on Saturday 30 January 2027, according to the race’s official site, with registration open. It runs on a flat, fast course on Al Marjan Island, one of four races held there on the day, with mass races for community runners, families and children in the race village. The 2026 edition, the 19th, was on 14 February 2026.

From 28 October 2026 that leaves about 13 weeks, enough for a first half marathon if you can already run 5 km. A sensible split: three runs a week on the Al Marjan Corniche or the Al Jazirah Al Hamra loop, done before 7 AM while October and November are still warm, plus two strength sessions indoors. Strength work is what keeps knees and hips intact as the long run grows from 8 km to 18 km.

How do RAK’s work week and Ramadan change your training hours?

Ras Al Khaimah’s government follows the UAE’s four-and-a-half-day week, according to the official u.ae portal. Federal staff work 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM from Monday to Thursday and 7:30 AM to noon on Friday, with Saturday and Sunday off, and u.ae says RAK’s local government adopted a similar system. Sharjah is different: a four-day week with a Friday-to-Sunday weekend.

  • Weekday mornings: a 7:30 AM start pushes training before work. A 5:30 AM session at home finishes with time to shower and drive.
  • Weekday afternoons: a 3:30 PM finish leaves a 4–6 PM window that fits a session before dinner.
  • Friday: the noon finish frees the afternoon. A 1 PM session starts the weekend with the work done.
  • Saturday and Sunday: the hiking and beach days in winter. Put the long run or the Jebel Jais walk here.

In Ramadan, u.ae says working hours are cut by two hours a day for private-sector employees, Muslim and non-Muslim alike. If you fast, move strength work to a shorter session in the late afternoon before iftar, or to an early slot after suhoor, and keep the intensity moderate. Ramadan arrives about 11 days earlier each year, u.ae notes, so for the next few years it falls in RAK’s milder months.

How do you train in a villa or compound gym with a coach on video?

Training at home in Ras Al Khaimah works well because so many residents have space: a villa in Al Hamra Village or Khuzam, a townhouse in Mina Al Arab, a compound gym down the path. A live MakeMyFitness session needs very little set-up.

  1. 1

Pick the coolest room, not the biggest

In summer, an air-conditioned bedroom beats a hot garage. You need about two metres by two metres of clear floor.

  2. 2

    Prop the phone side-on

Lean it on a shelf or a cheap stand 2–3 metres away so your coach sees you from head to heels for squats and hinges.

  3. 3

    Start with almost nothing

A mat and your bodyweight are enough for the first session. Your coach will tell you when a kettlebell or adjustable dumbbells are worth buying.

  4. 4

Use the compound gym if you have one

A compound gym with a rack of dumbbells is plenty. Your coach plans round what is there, and you skip a second membership.

  5. 5

Check the Wi-Fi where you train

Thick villa walls can weaken the signal. Test a video call in the room first, or move the router.

Every coached session above sits inside our window of 4:30 AM to 6:30 PM UAE time. Our coaches are based in India, 1 hour 30 minutes ahead, and the UAE keeps the same clock all year, so the slots don’t move between seasons. If a hike runs long or Ramadan changes your day, move the session with 24 hours’ notice.

Mountain, beach, gym or coached at home: which suits you in RAK?

  • Jebel Jais and the coast on your own suits you if you already train consistently and only need somewhere beautiful to do it. It works from October to April and gives you little from May to September.
  • A gym membership suits you if you like a busy floor and live in Al Nakheel, Al Dhait or near Al Hamra Mall, where RAK’s gyms are concentrated.
  • A coach in person suits you if you want someone spotting heavy lifts in the room, and will pay a Dubai-level rate for it.
  • MakeMyFitness suits you if you want a plan that carries on through 43°C summers, in a villa, compound gym or club, with a certified coach watching every rep live for AED 92 a session. It doesn’t suit you if you can only train after 6:30 PM.
