How much should a personal trainer cost in Manchester?

A one-to-one session with a personal trainer in Manchester costs around £65 for an hour, according to Fresha, the booking site where many Manchester trainers list their sessions. That is Fresha’s own estimate for the city, checked on 28 October 2026. The prices trainers actually post on Fresha run much wider, from £20 an hour at a community gym in Salford to £65 for a single hour in the city centre, and the per-session price drops sharply once you buy a block.

Manchester’s big gym chains don’t print a personal training price at all. PureGym and The Gym Group both rent their gym floors to freelance trainers who set their own rates, so the figure you get depends on the trainer, not the brand. Everything below was checked on 28 October 2026, and every price comes from a page the trainer, studio or gym publishes itself.

Two cautions on that table. A 30-minute session at £35 is the most expensive hour in it, even though the headline price looks low, so always convert to an hourly rate. And the cheapest rows are not like-for-like: Gym Confidence Club is a community interest company running gym-confidence coaching, and several Manchester trainers on Fresha, including Calculated Performance at its Manchester Central, Cheadle and Failsworth sites, list a £30 trial of 50 minutes. Ask what the sessions after the trial cost.

What do PureGym and Gym Group trainers charge in Manchester?

Personal trainers at Manchester’s budget chains are freelancers, and the chains say so. The Gym Group states that “each personal trainer is freelance and sets their own rates”, which means no price on its website and a contract with the trainer rather than the gym. PureGym’s Spinningfields branch on Hardman Street lists 13 personal trainers on its website without a single price on their profiles.

What the profiles do show is qualifications. The Spinningfields trainers we opened list a Level 3 Personal Trainer award, often alongside a Level 2 fitness instructor certificate, a nutrition certificate or boxing. To get a price you email or ring the trainer, and it is worth asking for the block rate as well as a single session: on Fresha, the city-centre trainer above charges £65 for one hour but £34 a session in a block of eight.

The Gym Group gives new members one free “PT Taster” session at their home gym, booked through its app, though it says not every location offers one. If you are joining one of its Manchester gyms anyway, take the taster before you commit to a trainer.

What does gym membership cost across Manchester, branch by branch?

Gym membership in Manchester costs £16.99–28.99 a month at PureGym’s three main city-centre branches, depending on the branch and the tier. The gap between branches is real even within a mile: Core at Urban Exchange on Great Ancoats Street costs £6 a month more than Core on Market Street. Each figure below is from the branch’s own page on 28 October 2026. Off-Peak members are locked out on weekday afternoons and early evenings; Core opens the doors at any hour.

Further out, PureGym’s Manchester page lists starting prices of £16.99 a month at Cheetham Hill Retail Park and at Stretford, both with a £9.99 joining fee, £17.99 at Debdale with no joining fee, £17.99 at Altrincham and £25.99 at Salford Quays. All of its Manchester branches are open 24 hours.

In Manchester, The Gym Group charges from £16.99 a month, plus £10 to join, and asks for no contract. Its Manchester gyms include Deansgate, Portland Street, Ashton Old Road, Old Trafford, Whitefield and Fallowfield, where the gym sits in the Toast Rack building on Old Hall Lane and costs from £28.99 a month. The chain says its Manchester gyms open 24 hours, with a footnote that 24-hour access isn’t available at every site.

Twelve coached sessions in Manchester: what is the whole monthly bill?

Your monthly bill for personal training in Manchester is the coach plus the gym, and the coach dominates it. The rows below price 12 sessions, three a week, from the figures earlier on this page. We leave out joining fees, which ranged from nothing at Debdale to £15 on Market Street.

Switching branches saves a few pounds. Swapping an in-person hour at Fresha’s estimate for a coach on video saves more than £600 a month, and even against the cheapest block rate in the city centre it saves about £240.

What should you ask a Manchester personal trainer before paying for a block?

With freelancers on every Manchester gym floor setting their own prices and terms, the checking is yours to do. Ask these six things of any trainer, us included, before you hand over £150 or more.

  1. 1

Is this the trial price or the real one?

Several Manchester trainers list a £25 or £30 taster that is well below their ongoing rate. Ask what session four costs, not session one.

  2. 2

    How long is the session?

Listed Manchester sessions run 30, 45, 50 and 60 minutes. Divide the price by the minutes before you compare two trainers.

  3. 3

    Who is the contract with?

At PureGym and The Gym Group the trainer is self-employed, so the cancellation terms are the trainer’s. Get them in writing.

  4. 4

    What are you qualified in?

The PureGym Spinningfields profiles list a Level 3 Personal Trainer award. Ask which awarding body issued it, and whether it stretches to your situation, say a bad back or a recent pregnancy.

  5. 5

Does my membership let me in at your times?

Off-Peak at Market Street ends at 15:30 on weekdays. If your trainer only has early-evening slots, you will need Core, at £6 a month more.

  6. 6

What happens when the trams don’t run?

Find out how late you can reschedule, and whether a no-show costs you the session. Across a Manchester winter, it will come up.

Where does MakeMyFitness fit against Manchester trainer prices?

MakeMyFitness sits below every in-person price we found in Manchester, and it works differently. A certified coach joins you over a live video call and calls out corrections while you lift, wherever you put the phone: a Hulme flat, a Castlefield block’s gym, the floor of your PureGym or a hotel room in London on a work trip. We run no studios, send nobody to your door and record nothing in advance. The coaches are in India, so our UK slots run 6 AM to 2:30 PM on GMT and stretch to 3:30 PM during British Summer Time.

MakeMyFitness prices in the UK, charged in GBP. Every session is live on video, and a 4-week plan is three sessions a week.

Put those figures next to the table at the top of this page. Our £19 for 45 minutes is less than a third of the £65 hour Fresha quotes for Manchester, and £15 under the £34 a session that the city-centre trainer above charges on a block of eight. Twelve sessions over four weeks cost £167, billed in sterling to a UK card, and any of them can move if you tell us a day ahead.

Kumar Abhishek leads our coaching. His qualifications are a Diploma in Personal Training and a Human Performance Nutritionist award, both from K11 School of Fitness Sciences, and a TRX Suspension Training certificate. Level 3 and other UK awards are not among them, and since the PureGym trainers on Hardman Street list Level 3 on their profiles, you should know that before you compare.

The honest limit is physical. A coach on a screen can’t grab the bar when your last rep of a heavy bench stalls, so save grinding sets for days when a mate is spotting. Almost everything else shows up clearly on camera: knees caving on a squat, hips rising first on a deadlift, rest periods that creep from 90 seconds to four minutes.

Which kind of Manchester trainer suits you?

  • Hands-on help matters more than price: book a city-centre trainer at about £65 an hour, or £34–45 each on a block, and get someone in the room who can spot you.
  • You already pay a budget chain in town or Cheetham Hill: hold on to the £16.99–28.99 membership and bring Personal Gym Training to the gym floor at £19.
  • Your terrace or flat is where you would rather sweat: Personal Home Training costs £21 and needs no journey at all.
  • An injury is still healing: your GP or physio decides when you can exercise again. After that sign-off, Rehab & Recovery is £31 a session of exercise coaching, which is not the same as physio treatment.
  • You share a Fallowfield or Withington house on a student budget: our small live Group Classes cost £12 each, or £96 for 12.
  • Your only free time is after 5: look elsewhere. Our last UK slot ends by 2:30 PM in winter and 3:30 PM in summer, so a Manchester trainer in person serves evenings far better.
  • You are testing one-rep maxes: that needs a spotter in the room, so use a trainer at your gym for those sessions.

Our Manchester running and weather guide covers Heaton Park, the Fallowfield Loop and the 2027 marathon, and the Manchester food guide puts numbers on the Curry Mile and Chinatown. Session hours are on the Manchester page; capital prices are on the London page, and every UK city we coach is on the UK page.
