When is it too hot to exercise outdoors in Dubai?
Outdoor exercise in Dubai is comfortable from November to March and hard work from May to September. The UAE National Center of Meteorology’s long-term averages, published through the World Meteorological Organization, give a January high of 24.0°C and a July high of 40.6°C at Dubai. Even the summer nights stay warm: the average August low is 29.3°C.
| Month | Average high | Average low | Rain | Training outdoors |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| January | 24.0°C | 13.7°C | 11.3 mm | Any time of day |
| February | 24.6°C | 14.5°C | 35.7 mm | Any time; the wettest month |
| March | 27.9°C | 17.0°C | 22.4 mm | Any time; warm by midday |
| April | 32.4°C | 20.1°C | 7.6 mm | Mornings and evenings |
| May | 36.8°C | 23.5°C | 0.7 mm | Early morning only |
| June | 38.8°C | 26.1°C | 0 mm | Dawn only, or indoors |
| July | 40.6°C | 28.9°C | 0 mm | Dawn only, or indoors |
| August | 40.4°C | 29.3°C | 0 mm | Dawn only, or indoors |
| September | 38.7°C | 26.3°C | 0 mm | Dawn only, or indoors |
| October | 35.1°C | 22.7°C | 0 mm | Early morning; easing by month end |
| November | 30.5°C | 18.3°C | 1.8 mm | Mornings and evenings |
| December | 26.2°C | 15.4°C | 14.3 mm | Any time of day |
Rain barely figures in a Dubai training plan. The same averages add up to about 94 mm a year, falling on roughly 14 days, almost all of them between December and March. Heat is the real season. From June to September even the overnight low sits between 26°C and 29°C, so a 6 AM run is warm before it starts.
Where can you run in Dubai, and how long is each track?
Dubai has marked running tracks in most of its districts, from Al Mamzar to the Marina. Gulf News listed the city’s main running and jogging tracks with their distances in 2021; the table gives those figures by area. Where another source measures a track differently, we say so below the table.
| Track | Area | Distance | Notes from Gulf News |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jumeirah beach track | Umm Suqeim to Jumeirah 1 | 14 km | From Burj Al Arab to Dubai Marine Beach Resort |
| Dubai Marina track | Dubai Marina | 8 km | Busy with markets and beach-goers |
| District One track | Meydan | 8 km | Tree-lined and well lit |
| Dubai Water Canal | Jumeirah, Al Safa, Business Bay | 6.5 km, or 12.8 km over the bridges | Skyline views |
| Downtown loop | Downtown Dubai | 5 km | Round Burj Khalifa, the Fountains and Burj Park |
| Mushrif Park | Mushrif, near Mirdif | 4.5 km loop | Dh3 a person, Dh10 a car |
| Al Mamzar beach | Al Mamzar, Deira | 4 km synthetic track | Open 24 hours |
| Creek Park | Umm Hurair, Bur Dubai | About 4 km | Dh5 entry |
| Safa Park | Al Safa | 3.5 km | Open 24 hours |
| The Greens | The Greens | 3.5 km | Along lakes and parks, 24 hours |
| Al Ittihad Park | Palm Jumeirah | 2.7 km | Along the Palm’s trunk |
| Zabeel Park | Near World Trade Centre | 2 km | Open 24 hours |
| JBR beach track | Jumeirah Beach Residence | 2 km | With an open-air gym |
| Al Barsha Pond Park | Al Barsha | 1.4 km | Soft surface, free entry |
| Al Nahda and Al Quoz pond parks | Al Nahda, Al Quoz | 1.3 km each | Family parks |
| Al Qudra cycle track | Al Qudra desert | 85 km | Remote: carry water and a phone |
Distances differ between sources. Great Runs, a running-route site, measures Al Barsha Pond Park at 1,500 m, marked every 100 m, and Zabeel Park and Safa Park at 2.5 km each. Gulf News’s fees and opening hours date from 2021, so check them on the day. For an easy first week, Al Barsha’s soft loop is gentle on the knees; for long Saturday runs, the Jumeirah beach track and the Marina are the classic pair.
What is on during Dubai Fitness Challenge 2026?
Dubai Fitness Challenge 2026 runs from 31 October to 29 November 2026 and asks everyone in the city to do 30 minutes of activity a day for 30 days, Gulf News reported on 1 October 2026. It is the tenth edition, under the theme “What’s Your 30x30?”. The 2026 programme includes three free Fitness Villages and more than 23 Community Fitness Hubs.
| Event | Date | Where | Distance or format |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dubai Ride | Sunday 1 November 2026 | Sheikh Zayed Road and Downtown | 12 km road route or 4 km family route |
| Dubai Stand-Up Paddle | 7–8 November 2026 | Hatta Dam | Paddleboarding |
| Dubai Run | Sunday 22 November 2026 | Sheikh Zayed Road and Downtown | 5 km or 10 km, walking welcome |
| Dubai Yoga | Sunday 29 November 2026 | Closing event | Mass yoga session |
Dubai Run has grown from 70,000 participants in 2019 to more than 307,000 in 2025, according to Gulf News, and Dubai Ride drew more than 40,000 cyclists in 2025. Emaar says the 5 km Dubai Run route starts near the Museum of the Future and finishes on Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard near Dubai Mall, while the 10 km route runs along Sheikh Zayed Road and finishes near the DIFC Gate Building. Both events are free with advance registration.
The month around the Challenge is also Dubai’s busiest for sport. The DP World Tour Championship golf runs from 12 to 15 November, the Dubai T100 Triathlon from 13 to 15 November and the Emirates Dubai 7s rugby from 27 to 29 November, Gulf News reported.
When is the Dubai Marathon 2027, and how much does it cost to enter?
The Dubai Marathon 2027 is on Sunday 17 January 2027, its 26th edition, according to the official race site. Entry costs USD 150 for the marathon, USD 85 for the 10 km road race and USD 50 for the 4 km fun run. The marathon mass start is at 6:30 AM, after the elite start at 5:45 AM, and the organisers expect 10–15°C at the start.
The course starts on Umm Suqeim Road near the Dubai Police Academy, runs along Al Sufouh Road past the entrance to Palm Jumeirah, then covers two out-and-back laps of Jumeirah Beach Road towards the Creek before finishing inside the Police Academy. There is a six-hour time limit. Organisers advise against parking near Jumeirah Beach Road and suggest Mall of the Emirates or Al Barsha, walking across the Metro bridge to the start.
If you start training at the end of October, you have about 11 weeks to race day. That is a short marathon build for someone already running 30–40 km a week, and comfortable preparation for a newer runner aiming at the 10 km road race, with Dubai’s cooler months on your side. Run long on Saturday or Sunday mornings on the Jumeirah beach track, and keep two strength sessions a week to protect your knees, hips and calves.
How does the UAE weekend change a Dubai training week?
The UAE government weekend is Saturday and Sunday, with Friday a short working day. Since 1 January 2022, federal government staff have worked 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM from Monday to Thursday and 7:30 AM to 12 PM on Fridays, according to the UAE government portal. Dubai’s government adopted the same pattern; Sharjah’s government instead takes Friday, Saturday and Sunday off.
That shape gives a Dubai week three natural training slots: early mornings before work, Friday after midday prayers and lunch, and long weekend mornings for running or a family session. Here is one way a week fits inside our 4:30 AM to 6:30 PM session window:
| Day | Time (UAE) | Session | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monday | 5:30 AM | Coached strength, 45 minutes | Tower gym |
| Wednesday | 5:30 AM | Coached strength, 45 minutes | Tower gym |
| Friday | 3:00 PM | Coached full-body session | Living room or villa |
| Saturday | 6:00 AM | Easy run, 5–8 km | Jumeirah beach track or the Marina |
| Sunday | 7:00 AM | Family walk or Dubai Run training | Safa Park or Downtown loop |
How do you keep training through Ramadan in Dubai?
You keep training through Ramadan in Dubai by training shorter, lighter and at the right moment of the day. The UAE government portal says working hours fall by two hours a day during Ramadan for Muslim and non-Muslim employees, and that some restaurants change their hours and cities become especially lively after sunset.
- Before iftar: a 30–45 minute session of mobility, core and moderate strength, ending shortly before sunset so you can break the fast straight after.
- After suhoor: a 5 AM session, for people who sleep after suhoor and feel stronger with food inside them.
- Not after iftar with us: our sessions end at 6:30 PM UAE time, so late-evening slots after iftar aren’t available. Use those evenings for a walk.
- Keep the load down: Ramadan is a month to hold strength, not to chase personal records.
Moving a session needs 24 hours’ notice, which is enough to follow a changing Ramadan routine week by week. If you have diabetes or another condition, ask your doctor before training while fasting.
How do you use a building gym in Dubai with a coach on video?
A residents’ gym in a Marina, JLT, Business Bay or Downtown tower is enough for a full programme with a coach on video. You need your phone, a way to prop it up and a spot where the camera can see your whole body. Here is how a first session goes:
- 1
Check the rules
Some buildings set hours, age limits or rules on phone use and outside trainers in the residents’ gym. A video session involves no visitor, but check that filming yourself is allowed.
- 2
Tell your coach what’s there
Send photos of the racks, dumbbells and machines before the first session. A set of dumbbells, a cable machine and a bench is plenty for a full programme.
- 3
Set up the camera
Prop the phone 2–3 metres away at hip height, side-on for squats and hinges. Use earphones so the coach can cue you without disturbing anyone else.
- 4
Go early in summer
A 5:15 AM or 5:30 AM session finishes before the day’s heat builds, and before most of the building is awake.
Should you train outdoors, at a gym or online in Dubai?
- Outdoors suits runners and walkers from November to March, and early risers in April, May and October. In June to September it suits only a dawn run, and even then the low is 26–29°C.
- A big gym such as GymNation, Fitness First or Gold’s Gym suits you if you want heavy free weights, classes and a pool. GymNation’s Core membership cost AED 209 a month at its Dubai branches on 28 October 2026.
- A trainer in person suits you if you want someone physically spotting heavy lifts. Online coaching can’t do that, so for maximal bench presses and squats, have someone in the room.
- MakeMyFitness suits you if you want a certified coach to plan and watch every session in your tower gym, villa or hotel room, between 4:30 AM and 6:30 PM UAE time, from AED 92 a session. Our coaches are based in India. We don’t suit you if you can only train in the evening after 6:30 PM.
Our online personal training page for Dubai has the session times and booking form. See what a personal trainer costs in Dubai for prices across the city, and healthy eating in Dubai for calories in shawarma, karak and iftar food. Other emirates are on our UAE page.
