How much should a personal trainer cost in Glasgow?

In Glasgow, expect to pay between £26.50 and £43 for a single session with a trainer at a gym that publishes its prices. Unusually for a UK city, the clearest prices come from public and university gyms rather than private chains. Glasgow Club, the city’s council-owned leisure brand run by Glasgow Life, prints a full price list. Strathclyde Sport, the University of Strathclyde’s sports centre, does the same. PureGym, The Gym Group and Nuffield Health all have trainers in Glasgow but leave the price to the trainer or the checkout.

Session lengths differ, so the per-hour figure in the last column puts them on the same footing. We worked it out from each published price; nobody in Glasgow sells our 45-minute format by the hour.

The short session is the expensive one. Glasgow Club’s 30-minute slot costs £27, which is £54 an hour, while its full hour is £43. If you are paying a trainer by the half-hour anywhere in the city, ask what the hour costs before you commit.

Why do Glasgow’s council gyms set the going rate?

Glasgow Club is the reason personal training prices in Glasgow are easier to pin down than in most British cities. Its prices page, effective from 1 August 2026, lists one-to-one personal training at £27 for 30 minutes and £43 for 60 minutes, at the same price for adults, juniors and concessions. Two people can share a trainer for £17 each for 30 minutes or £30 each for an hour, which brings an hour for two to £60.

Membership is separate and cheap by city-centre standards. Glasgow Club says it runs 19 venues across Glasgow, including 15 gyms and 12 pools, and that you don’t need to live or work in the city to join. The two main plans, as published on 28 October 2026:

  • FitClub, £32 a month (aged 22 and over): gym at any time, more than 1,000 classes a week across all venues, swimming and on-demand LesMills+ workouts in the app. Members aged 18 to 21 pay £21.
  • ActivClub, £21 a month (aged 22 and over): pre-booked gym sessions at quieter times.
  • Concessions: from £13 to £21 a month for people on certain means-tested benefits.
  • Pay as you go: free to register, then £7.50 for an adult gym session and £5.50 for a swim.

One detail is easy to miss. FitClub includes four “Fitness Journey” appointments with a fitness professional when you join, then a review appointment up to once a month at no extra charge. That isn’t personal training, but it is free coaching on programme design that many Glasgow members never book.

Strathclyde Sport: £40 for non-members, £26.50 for members

Strathclyde Sport sells personal training as single 45-minute sessions only: £26.50 for members and £40 for non-members, paid at the time of booking. There are no block discounts on its page. The first session is a consultation on your goals, and a written personalised exercise plan costs extra. Public membership is £48 a month or £528 a year, and the concession rate for over-60s or people on benefits is £35 a month or £385 a year.

University of Glasgow Sport: trainers for members, prices on request

UofG Sport, at the Stevenson Building and the Garscube Sports Complex, offers personal training to members only and lists its trainers’ own phone numbers and emails rather than a price. Its published day pass is £8.50 for the public and £7 for students and staff at the Stevenson Building, and £5.50 at Garscube.

Nuffield Health Glasgow Central: hour packs, priced at checkout

Nuffield Health’s Glasgow Central club on Finnieston Street sells personal training in packs of 1, 4, 8 or 12 hours, each usable as 30- or 60-minute sessions and valid for 90 days. A pack shared with a partner costs 150% of the one-to-one price. The page sends you to checkout for the actual figure and warns that a trainer who charges more, or buying at a club that isn’t your home gym, can add to it.

What does a gym membership cost in Glasgow, branch by branch?

Nuffield Health Glasgow Central is the premium option in the city centre at £67 a month off-peak or £79 anytime on a 12-month contract, with no joining fee, a pool, sauna and steam room. Its rolling monthly plan was £79, reduced from £99.

What does a month of coached training cost in Glasgow, all in?

Personal training in Glasgow is the trainer’s fee plus somewhere to train, and over a month of 12 sessions (three a week) the coaching is by far the bigger part. These totals use only the published prices above and leave out joining fees.

Swapping gyms changes the month by tens of pounds. Swapping how you are coached changes it by hundreds: 12 hours with a Glasgow Club trainer cost £516, against £167 for 12 live sessions with us. You keep the gym you already like.

What should you ask a Glasgow personal trainer before you pay?

There is no register a Glasgow trainer has to be on, and the city’s gyms all sell training differently: by the half-hour, by the 45 minutes, by the hour, in packs that expire. These questions sort out most of it, and you should ask them of us too.

  1. 1

How long is a session, exactly?

Glasgow Club sells 30 or 60 minutes, Strathclyde Sport 45 and Nuffield packs of hours you split as you like. Compare price per hour, not price per booking.

  2. 2

Do I have to be a member first?

UofG Sport only offers training to members. Strathclyde Sport charges non-members £13.50 more per session than members.

  3. 3

    When do my sessions expire?

Nuffield Health’s packs run out 90 days after you buy them. A missed fortnight in January can cost you hours you’ve paid for.

  4. 4

Do my membership hours match my training slot?

A cheap Off-Peak plan only works if the trainer’s free times fall inside it. PureGym Shawlands’ weekday lunch gap catches people out.

  5. 5

What is the trainer qualified in?

Ask what they hold and where it is from, and whether it covers your situation: a bad back, pregnancy or coming back from surgery.

  6. 6

What happens if I can’t make it?

Strathclyde Sport takes payment at booking. Ask any trainer for their cancellation rule in writing before buying a block.

Is a £19 online session worth it next to a Glasgow trainer?

MakeMyFitness is live online personal training, so a £19 session in Glasgow is a real coach on a video call, not a recorded workout. Your coach watches you move and corrects your form in real time, in your flat, in a residents’ gym in Finnieston or in your own PureGym. We have no studios and make no home visits. Our coaches are based in India, which is why Glasgow sessions run from 6 AM to 2:30 PM UK time in winter and until 3:30 PM in British Summer Time.

MakeMyFitness prices in the UK, charged in GBP. Every session is live on video, and a 4-week plan is three sessions a week.

Next to Glasgow’s published prices, our 45-minute session at £19 is less than half of Glasgow Club’s £43 hour and £7.50 cheaper than a Strathclyde Sport member’s session. On the 4-week plan, 12 sessions three times a week, it is £167, which is £13.92 a session. Plans are charged in pounds on a UK card, and any session can move with 24 hours’ notice.

The trade-off is that nobody stands beside you. A coach on video can’t spot a heavy bench press or catch a failed squat, so save true maximum lifts for days with a training partner or an in-person trainer. What a coach can see clearly from a phone on the floor is everything else: squat depth, knee travel, a rounded back on a deadlift, rushed tempo, short rest periods.

Our lead coach is Kumar Abhishek, with a Diploma in Personal Training and a Human Performance Nutritionist qualification, both from K11 School of Fitness Sciences, and TRX Suspension Training certification. He holds no UK qualification such as a Level 3, and we say so because Glaswegians reasonably ask.

Which kind of Glasgow trainer suits you?

  • You want someone beside you and you can make an evening: a Glasgow Club trainer at £43 an hour is the city’s clearest in-person price, and two of you can share one for £30 each.
  • You study or work at Strathclyde: a member session at Strathclyde Sport is £26.50 for 45 minutes, on campus.
  • You already pay for PureGym, The Gym Group or Glasgow Club: keep it and add Personal Gym Training at £19, coached on your phone during the morning or lunch.
  • You’d rather not leave the flat on a December morning: Personal Home Training at £21 needs a mat, a phone and a pair of dumbbells.
  • You are recovering from an injury: get clearance from your GP or physio first. Rehab & Recovery is £31 a session of exercise coaching after that; it is not physiotherapy.
  • You like training with others: Group Classes are a small live class at £12 per person, or £96 for 12.
  • You can only train after work: we are not the right fit. Our last UK slot ends at 2:30 PM in winter and 3:30 PM in summer.
  • You want a spotter for heavy lifts: hire in person; a coach on video can’t take the bar.
