How hot does Al Ain get, month by month?
Al Ain sits inland, 292 m above sea level and about 160 km east of Abu Dhabi, and its summers are hotter than the coast’s. NOAA’s 1991–2020 normals for Al Ain International Airport give an average July high of 44.9°C and an average annual rainfall of just 62 mm. For comparison, WMO-published data for Abu Dhabi on the coast give a July average high of 42.0°C, from an older 1982–1991 record.
| Month | Average high | Average low | Rain |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | 24.7°C | 12.8°C | 14.7 mm |
| February | 27.5°C | 14.5°C | 4.6 mm |
| March | 31.3°C | 17.3°C | 17.9 mm |
| April | 36.9°C | 21.7°C | 6.1 mm |
| May | 42.1°C | 25.7°C | 0.7 mm |
| June | 44.6°C | 28.1°C | 0.6 mm |
| July | 44.9°C | 30.2°C | 4.9 mm |
| August | 44.6°C | 30.6°C | 1.5 mm |
| September | 42.0°C | 27.6°C | 0.8 mm |
| October | 37.7°C | 23.7°C | 0.5 mm |
| November | 31.4°C | 19.0°C | 2.2 mm |
| December | 26.9°C | 14.8°C | 7.3 mm |
Read the table as three seasons. December to February is Al Ain’s outdoor season, with highs of 25–28°C and cool 13–15°C nights that make dawn rides on Jebel Hafeet a pleasure. March, April, October and November are shoulder months: fine at first light, hard by midday. May to September is indoor season, when even the overnight low stays at 25.7°C or higher and the daytime average tops 42°C.
Where can you run, ride and hike in Al Ain?
Al Ain’s outdoor training is built around one mountain and a ring of green. Jebel Hafeet, about 1,249 m high by Wikipedia’s figure, carries an 11.7 km summit road with 60 bends and about 1,200 m of climbing at an average gradient of about 8%. At its foot, Green Mubazzarah is the start of the 23 km Al Ain Cycling Track, a circular paved route, according to Property Finder.
| Route | Distance | Surface | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jebel Hafeet summit road | 11.7 km, about 1,200 m climb | Paved, 60 bends | Hill repeats, road cycling |
| Al Ain Cycling Track from Green Mubazzarah | 23 km loop | Paved, mostly flat | Long rides, steady runs |
| Al Ain Zoo trails, Jebel Hafeet foothills | 3 km, 6 km and 9 km | Off-road | Mountain biking |
| Al Ain Oasis paths | Varies; oasis covers 1,200+ ha | Flat, palm-shaded | Walks, easy rides, recovery days |
| Jebel Hafeet hiking trail | Not published | Rock, steep | Experienced hikers |
Visit Al Ain describes the oasis routes as flat off-road trails, open 24 hours along a well-lit route, with a rest stop at Ethr and bike rental at the gate. The oasis is watered by the falaj, the ancient channel system that still runs today, and its palm-shaded paths make it Al Ain’s gentlest place for a recovery walk or an easy ride with children.
Visit Al Ain also lists a free hiking trail up Jebel Hafeet that passes ancient beehive tombs on the way to the summit. Around 500 of those tombs, dating from 3200 to 2600 BC, have been excavated near Mezyad at the foothills. The Hili Archaeological Park, with the 4 m Hili Grand Tomb, has gardens and fountains for a gentler family walk. Both belong to the Cultural Sites of Al Ain, the UAE’s first UNESCO World Heritage listing, inscribed in 2011.
When is the Al Ain half marathon in 2026?
The Al Ain half marathon is on 7 November 2026, ten days after this guide was checked. The Abu Dhabi Media Office announced on 30 July 2026 that the Al Ain Region will host the second preparatory race for the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon, with a principal distance of 21.1 km. The main marathon follows on 12 December 2026, with 42.195 km, 10 km, 5 km and a 2.5 km family race.
If you haven’t trained for 21.1 km, you don’t need to run it this year. A November start in Al Ain gives you the coolest four months to build up, and the main marathon in Abu Dhabi on 12 December offers 5 km and 10 km distances that suit a first race.
| Event | Date | Distance | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Al Ain preparatory race (half marathon) | 7 November 2026 | 21.1 km | Al Ain Region |
| ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon | 12 December 2026 | 42.195, 10, 5 and 2.5 km | Abu Dhabi |
| Jabal Hafeet Mercure Challenge | Usually January | Road cycling climb | Jebel Hafeet |
| UAE Tour Women, final stage | Held 5–8 February 2026; usually February | 156 km | Hazza bin Zayed Stadium to the summit |
| UAE Tour Men, stage 6 | Held 16–22 February 2026; usually February | 168 km | Al Ain Museum to the summit |
What happens on Jebel Hafeet during the UAE Tour?
Jebel Hafeet has been a fixed summit finish of the UAE Tour since 2019, so the professional field climbs the same road you can ride. In February 2026, the Abu Dhabi Media Office listed stage 6 of the men’s race from Al Ain Museum to the summit over 168 km, and the final stage of the women’s race from Hazza bin Zayed Stadium to the summit over 156 km. Tadej Pogačar won the stage there in 2020.
For amateur riders in Al Ain, that makes the mountain a benchmark. Ride it in December, time yourself from Green Mubazzarah to the car park at the top, and ride it again in March. Strength work twice a week, squats, split squats and hip hinges, is what moves that time, and it is exactly what you can do indoors when the road is too hot to ride.
How does the Al Ain work and study week shape when you can train?
Al Ain runs on a Monday-to-Friday week. Federal government staff work 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM from Monday to Thursday and 7:30 AM to noon on Friday, with Saturday and Sunday off, a pattern in place since 1 January 2022. The u.ae portal says the Abu Dhabi Government adopted a similar week, which covers its offices across the emirate, Al Ain included.
The city also runs on campus and hospital time. UAE University has about 18,000 undergraduates and 1,800 postgraduates, and about 6,696 students live on its campus. Tawam Hospital and Al Ain Hospital run around the clock. Early finishers, students and shift workers all fit our session hours: 4:30 AM to 6:30 PM UAE time, every day.
- Government staff: a 4:00 PM session after the 3:30 PM finish, or Friday at 2:00 PM after prayers.
- UAE University students: a 7:00 AM session before lectures, or mid-afternoon between them.
- Hospital shift workers: a lighter 10:00 AM session after nights, or a 5:00 AM one before a day shift.
- Parents at home: a 9:00 AM session once the school run is done, in the majlis or a spare room.
Can you train well at home in a low-rise Al Ain villa?
Yes, and in Al Ain home is often the most practical place to train. The city limits new buildings to seven floors, according to Wikipedia, which is part of why it is called the Garden City. That means fewer towers with residents’ gyms than Dubai or Abu Dhabi, and more villas with a majlis, a courtyard or a spare room.
What a villa room needs for coaching on video is modest: about 2 by 2 metres of clear floor, a phone propped 2–3 metres away so your whole body is in frame, and decent Wi-Fi. A pair of dumbbells, a resistance band and a sturdy chair cover most of a strength programme. Your coach plans round what you own, so a bare majlis floor works on day one and you add kit as you go.
If you prefer a gym, GymNation at Makani Al Ain Mall is open 24 hours with free weights up to 60 kg and a separate ladies facility with its own entrance. Its Core membership cost AED 209 a month on 28 October 2026. Salonist lists 54 fitness centres in Al Ain in all, spread from Hili to Al Jimi to Falaj Hazza.
How do you keep training through Ramadan in Al Ain?
In Ramadan, working hours in the UAE fall by two hours a day under labour law, for fasting and non-fasting staff alike, according to the u.ae portal. In Al Ain that often frees the late afternoon. If you fast, keep sessions short and light: 20–30 minutes of mobility, core and easy strength work in the hour or two before iftar, inside our 6:30 PM cut-off. Save heavier sessions for the days after Eid.
Ramadan moves about 11 days earlier each year on the Gregorian calendar and starts with the official moon sighting, so it will land in cooler months for the next few years. You can move any session with 24 hours’ notice as your sleep and prayer times shift through the month.
A year of training in Al Ain, season by season
| Months | Average high | Outdoors | Indoors |
|---|---|---|---|
| December–February | 25–28°C | Jebel Hafeet climbs, the 23 km track, oasis walks | Two strength sessions a week |
| March and November | About 31°C | Dawn rides and runs only | Two or three strength sessions a week |
| April and October | 37–38°C | Short dawn walks in the oasis | Three sessions a week |
| May–September | 42–45°C | Avoid hard outdoor training | Three sessions a week, all indoors |
This rhythm is what MakeMyFitness is built for in Al Ain. Three live 45-minute sessions a week in your villa or gym keep your strength through the summer, so you arrive at December ready for the mountain rather than starting again from scratch. Al Ain is also the Arab Tourism Organization’s Arab Tourism Capital for 2026, with a year-long programme of cultural and heritage events to walk to in the cool months.
| Program | One session | 4-week plan (12 sessions) | Per session on the plan |

Who we suit: anyone in Al Ain who wants a coach watching every rep at home or in their gym, between 4:30 AM and 6:30 PM, and who will train indoors through the summer. Who we don’t: someone who needs a person in the room spotting heavy lifts, or who can only train after 6:30 PM. Our coaches are based in India, 1 hour 30 minutes ahead of Al Ain, which is why the day ends there.
