A one-to-one hour with a personal trainer in Nottingham costs £35 to £50 at the prices trainers publish themselves. That range comes from Fresha, the booking marketplace, where five Nottingham-area providers showed a price on 28 October 2026: one-hour sessions at £35 and £50, and 30-minute sessions from £20. The figure you see quoted most often online, a city-wide average, wasn’t one we could open and check, so we have left it out.

Nottingham’s gyms are less forthcoming. PureGym’s six Nottingham branches list trainers on every branch page, 11 of them at Beeston alone, but no prices: each trainer sets their own, and the two Castle Marina profiles we read offered a free first session instead. The Gym Group says its Nottingham City trainers are “ready to support you” without a figure. Nuffield Health is the one chain that prints a number on its Nottingham page.

Two cautions about this table. Fresha’s prices are what a handful of providers chose to list, not a survey of the city. And Nuffield’s £100 is for four hours bought as a pack that expires 90 days after purchase; it is good value per hour, but you can only buy it once you are a member.

What does a gym membership cost in Nottingham, branch by branch?

Gym membership in Nottingham varies less by postcode than you might expect. PureGym runs six branches with Nottingham in the name: Arnold, Basford, Beeston, Castle Marina, Colwick and West Bridgford. Five of them charge £24.99 or £25.99 a month for Core, the 24/7 tier. West Bridgford is the outlier at £29.99. These are the prices on each branch page on 28 October 2026.

Every branch discounts the first month of Plus, to between £24.99 and £29.99. Basford on Off-Peak is the lowest-cost line: £19.99 monthly and a £10 fee to sign up.

The Gym Group: from £16.99 a month

The Gym Group says it has six Nottingham locations, and its Nottingham page names three: Nottingham City on Trinity Square, Radford and Sherwood. Its Nottingham page advertises membership “from only £16.99 a month”, contract-free, plus £10 once to join. At Nottingham City itself, a rolling month is £24.99 for the first month and then £30.99, with a £15 joining fee; a 12-month saver is £339 paid upfront, and a student plan for 12 months is £279. A day pass is £9.99.

Nuffield Health Nottingham: £75 to £88 a month, with a pool

Nuffield Health’s Nottingham gym is on Plains Road in Mapperley. Off-peak membership is £75 a month on a 12-month commitment, Anytime is £88, and a rolling month was £86 when we looked, with nothing to pay to join. That buys a swimming pool, sauna, steam room and unlimited classes as well as the gym floor. Nuffield’s trainers are CIMSPA-registered, sessions run 30 or 60 minutes, and personal training is “exclusive to gym members”.

Active Nottingham: the council’s six leisure centres

Nottingham City Council runs six leisure centres under the Active Nottingham name: Clifton, Djanogly, Harvey Hadden Sports Village, Ken Martin, Southglade and Victoria. Fitness+ costs £30.99 monthly if you sign for a year, or £38.99 on a rolling basis, where a £30 sign-up fee also applies. Pay as you go, a gym visit is £8.50 with a free Active Nottingham account or £9.50 without, and £4.25 at the concessionary rate. Students with an NUS or Totem card pay £20.99 a month on a 12-month plan.

Why do Nottingham’s Off-Peak gym hours suit a coach on video?

PureGym’s Nottingham Off-Peak plans let you in on weekdays from midnight until 3:30 PM at Basford, Castle Marina and West Bridgford, and until 4 PM at Beeston and Colwick, then again late in the evening and all weekend. MakeMyFitness sessions in Nottingham run from 6 AM to 2:30 PM UK time in winter and until 3:30 PM in British Summer Time, because our coaches are based in India. The two windows overlap almost exactly.

Coaching is only half a Nottingham training bill; the other half is the building you train in. Below, six combinations a Nottingham reader might actually choose, each costed for 12 sessions in a month. We have ignored one-off sign-up fees, which ranged from £10 to £30 across the gyms above.

Nuffield is the cheapest way in Nottingham to get a trainer standing next to you, at about £388 a month, and it comes with a pool. The cheapest way to get coached at all is a budget gym on Off-Peak with a coach on video, at under £190. The gap between those two is roughly £200 a month; the gap to a £50-an-hour independent trainer is over £440.

What should I ask a Nottingham personal trainer before I pay for a block?

Discuss your goals, qualifications and session details before choosing a coach.

There is no single register a Nottingham trainer has to be on, and at the budget chains each trainer runs their own business inside the gym. Ask these questions of anyone you are about to pay, including us.

  1. 1

    Which qualification, from whom

The PureGym Castle Marina profiles we read list a Level 3 personal trainer qualification; Nuffield’s trainers are CIMSPA-registered. Ask what the trainer holds and whether it covers what you need, such as training after surgery or during pregnancy.

  2. 2

How long an hour really is

Fresha’s Nottingham listings mix 30-minute and one-hour sessions, and a 30-minute session at £20 is £40 an hour. Compare price per minute, not per booking.

  3. 3

Whether you need a membership too

At Nuffield you do, from £75 a month. At PureGym you need a membership to be in the building. An independent trainer may work in a park or a studio instead.

  4. 4

    When the block expires

Nuffield’s packs expire 90 days after purchase. Ask any trainer what happens to unused sessions if you are ill or away.

  5. 5

How much notice to move a session

Shift rotas at the hospitals, exam weeks at the two universities and school holidays all move a week around. Get the rule in writing.

  6. 6

    What happens in session one

A good first session is questions and a movement check. Both PureGym Castle Marina trainers whose profiles we read offer the first one free; ours starts with the same questions.

Every MakeMyFitness session is a real-time video call: your coach sees you move and talks you through each correction as it happens, whether you are in a Sneinton front room, a Beeston PureGym or a hotel room on a work trip. Nothing is recorded in advance, and we have no studios and send no one to your home. In Nottingham the 45-minute slots start at 6 AM and finish by 2:30 PM through winter, 3:30 PM in summer.

MakeMyFitness prices in the UK, charged in GBP. Every session is live on video, and a 4-week plan is three sessions a week.

Set against Nottingham’s published prices, £19 for 45 minutes is a little over half Fresha’s £35 hour and under 40% of its £50 hour. Per hour, Nuffield’s £25 on a 4-hour pack is close to ours, but it needs a membership from £75 a month and you can’t use it at home. Twelve sessions across four weeks costs £167, taken in sterling from a UK card, and a day’s notice is all it takes to reschedule one.

The limit is physical. Nobody on a screen can catch a failed bench press or load a bar for you. The rest, from how deep your squat goes to whether your back rounds on a deadlift, shows clearly on a phone propped against the dumbbell rack.

Our lead coach is Kumar Abhishek, who holds a Diploma in Personal Training and is a Human Performance Nutritionist, both from K11 School of Fitness Sciences, and is TRX Suspension Training qualified. We don’t hold UK qualifications such as Level 3 or CIMSPA registration, and we would rather you knew before you book.

Picking a Nottingham option: who each one is for, and when to skip us

  • You want a trainer in the room and a pool on the same ticket: Nuffield Health in Mapperley, from £75 a month plus £100 for each 4 hours of training.
  • You want one specific local trainer for a few sessions: the one-hour prices on Fresha run from £35 to £50; ask what is included.
  • You already pay for PureGym or The Gym Group: keep it, drop to Off-Peak where your branch offers it, and add Personal Gym Training at £19 a session.
  • You train at home in Sherwood, Clifton or Beeston: Personal Home Training at £21 a session, with no membership on top.
  • You are coming back from an injury: see your GP or physio first. Once they clear you, Rehab & Recovery is £31 a session of exercise coaching; it is not physiotherapy.
  • You are a student and money is tight: Group Classes are £12 per person, or £96 for 12, and need no more space than your room.
  • Your only free time is after 5 PM: look elsewhere. Our last Nottingham slot finishes at 2:30 PM in winter and 3:30 PM in summer, so evenings need a local trainer.
  • You lift near your max and need a spotter: that takes a person in the room, which a video call can’t replace.
