Personal training in Birmingham costs roughly £20 to £30 an hour at the gyms that print a price, before you pay for the membership that most of them require. Few Birmingham clubs publish one. Nuffield Health does, through an example on its Birmingham Central page: a 4-hour 1-2-1 pack for £100, which is £25 an hour. Fitness First, whose only West Midlands club is in Solihull, says its sessions start at £30. PureGym and The Gym Group have trainers on the floor in Birmingham but leave the price to each trainer. Every figure on this page was checked on 28 October 2026.

One caution about the Nuffield number. The £100 pack is the example the club uses to explain partner pricing, and Nuffield says a trainer who charges more may cost extra, so ask for the rate of the trainer you actually want before you buy a block.

Nuffield Health’s city-centre club, Birmingham Central, is at Broadway Plaza on Ladywood Middleway, a short walk from Five Ways, with a pool, sauna, steam room, climbing wall and free parking. Its personal training page sets out the rules below, and the chain’s Rubery club on the south-west edge of the city publishes the same ones.

  • Pack sizes: 1, 4, 8 or 12 hours, and each hour can be split into two 30-minute sessions.
  • Expiry: packs are valid for 90 days from purchase, so a 12-hour pack needs a session a week to be used up in time.
  • Cancelling: give at least 24 hours’ notice or the session may be lost, and refunds are only given for medical reasons.
  • Partner training: two members share a 4, 8 or 12-hour pack and each saves 25% against 1-2-1 prices, but you stay with the same partner throughout.
  • Members only: training is “exclusive to gym members”, and buying it at a club that isn’t your home gym can cost extra.

Membership at Birmingham Central is £70 a month on a 12-month Anytime plan, £60 a month on Off-Peak, and £29 to join. A one-month rolling plan was also £70 when we checked, shown as 20% off £88. So the cheapest way to get four coached hours a month at Nuffield in Birmingham is about £160 for the month: £60 of membership and £100 of training.

A Birmingham gym membership costs from £15.99 a month at the budget end to £70 at Nuffield Health. PureGym says it has 10 gyms in Birmingham, and the price depends on the branch more than you might expect: Core at Edgbaston costs £9 a month more than Core on Broad Street. These are the prices on four PureGym branch pages on 28 October 2026. Off-Peak restricts weekday hours; Core is round-the-clock access.

Yes, and this is where Birmingham clients save the most. Our UK sessions run from 6 AM to 2:30 PM all year, and until 3:30 PM in British Summer Time, because our coaches are based in India. At the PureGym branches we checked, that whole window sits inside weekday off-peak hours, so you can pay for the lowest tier and still book any slot we offer. Nuffield’s off-peak hours start later, at 09:00.

For most Birmingham clients who train in the morning or at lunch, yes. MakeMyFitness is live online personal training: your coach joins a video call, watches you from your phone’s camera and corrects your form as you move. You can train at home, in your tower’s residents’ gym, in your own PureGym or Nuffield club, or in a hotel room on a work trip. We don’t have studios, we don’t visit homes, and nothing is pre-recorded.

At £19, a 45-minute session costs less than the £25 hour Nuffield’s example works out at, and well under the £30 that Fitness First trainers start from. Over a month the gap widens: £167 for 12 sessions against £300 for 12 Nuffield hours. You pay in pounds on a UK card and can move any session with 24 hours’ notice.

What you give up is a hand on the bar. A coach on video can’t spot a heavy bench press or load your plates, so save maximal lifts for a day with a training partner. Most of what a trainer actually corrects, such as knees caving on a squat, a rounded back on a deadlift or rushed tempo on a row, shows up clearly on a phone propped against the dumbbell rack.

Our lead coach is Kumar Abhishek: a Diploma in Personal Training and a Human Performance Nutritionist qualification, both from K11 School of Fitness Sciences, plus TRX Suspension Training. We don’t hold UK qualifications such as Level 3, and we’d rather say so here than have you find out later.

What should you ask a Birmingham personal trainer before you pay?

Discuss your goals, qualifications and session details before choosing a coach.
Discuss your goals, qualifications and session details before choosing a coach.
  1. How long is a session? Nuffield’s packs can be booked as 30 or 60 minutes, so “4 hours” can mean eight short sessions. Agree the length before you compare prices.
  2. When does the pack expire? Nuffield’s expire 90 days after purchase. If you miss three weeks over Christmas, you may lose hours.
  3. What is the cancellation rule? Nuffield asks for 24 hours’ notice; so do we. A self-employed trainer at a budget gym sets their own rule, so get it in writing.
  4. Do I need the gym’s membership? At Nuffield and Fitness First, yes. That adds £49 to £70 a month to the training price.
  5. What qualification do you hold? Ask what it is, who awarded it and whether it covers anything specific you need, such as training after surgery or in pregnancy.
  6. How will I get there? A trainer at Birmingham Central suits someone in Edgbaston or Ladywood. From Sutton Coldfield or Longbridge, it’s a trip across the city each time.

  • You want a pool and an in-person trainer in one place: Nuffield Health Birmingham Central, at about £370 a month for membership plus 12 hours.
  • You live near Solihull and like a full-service club: Fitness First Solihull lists £49 a month, with trainers from £30.
  • You’re on a budget gym plan and train before 2:30 PM: keep your £15.99 to £20.99 Off-Peak membership and add Personal Gym Training at £19.
  • You won’t travel to a gym in winter: Personal Home Training at £21 a session, in your own front room.
  • You’re coming back from an injury: see your GP or physio first; once they clear you, Rehab & Recovery is £31 a session of exercise coaching, not treatment.
  • You want a lower price and company: Group Classes, £12 per person, or £96 for 12.
  • You can only train after work: we’re not for you. Our UK sessions end at 2:30 PM in winter and 3:30 PM in summer, so book an in-person Birmingham trainer for the evening.
  • You need someone physically spotting heavy lifts: an in-person trainer at your gym is the right call.
